View Full Version : How do you get an auto off of a card?

Is it possible to somehow clean an auto off of a card. There's a card that I want that wasn't originally auto'd and a guy had it signed in person. Anyone know how to clean it off? It looks like its a black sharpie auto.

Why do want to alter a auto card?

Because the card wasn't made to be autographed and I like the card better without the auto. I'm not wanting to alter the card, I want to get it back to original again.

try the mr clean magic eraser or windex. obviously depends on what the surface of the card is.

I know what doesn't work; finger nail polish remover. I had a sharpie mark on the back of a card from this years National Treasures, but first decided to try the remover on a cheap card that was made out of the same paper stock (a.k.a the Kobe Anthology), needless to say it removed the sharpie ink but it also removed the print ink as well.
I think it might ultimately depend on the surface of the card. For example, on a chrome style card the material might be more resistant to acetone type products, so nail polish remover might work.
Whatever you try, make sure you test it on a similar surface first.

I don't think that can be fixed honestly. I just don't see you getting the auto off without damaging the card...no way.
That sucks...why do that to THAT card???

Thats what I'm saying! I would have just had Magic sign a piece of paper instead of that card

If trying to get the auto off the card would possibly damage it, would it be better to just send it in to BGS or PSA to have it authenticated?

Was that from his recent public paid signing? I would have signed a sleeve and then put it on the card to kind of preview what it looked liked.

I dont know when it was. I just know the card would look a lot better without the auto.
Honestly, I'd just learn to live with it. You're probably just going to end up ruining the card when you try to remove the signature. Then you'll really be annoyed.

No liquids, the magic eraser is a pretty good idea

Have you used the magic eraser? Does it work well?
ivbaseball06

I wouldn't use a magic eraser. They are gritty, like a very very fine sandpaper. You would leave micro-scratches on the card.

If you don't like the way it looks now, just wait until you see what it looks like when you try to remove it from the card!

Your best bet for Sharpie would be to probably dab a Q-tip in some hair spray and try to lightly wipe it off, but not too much so you don't risk the possibilities of wiping away the foil or even the card gloss or picture itself.

Won't work, see earlier post.
The ingredients that make up hairspray are corrosive to the print ink no matter how lightly you rub.

Was gonna say the same thing.
Go to a signing (if possible) and pay the auto fee of course. Then send it in to get stabbed by PSA/DNA or James Spence. Turn around and flip it for a good chunk of $$

I don't think jordan have done any public signing for a long time, and if he does, it will probably be $1,000 an item! Best way to catch him maybe on gold course but I'm sure he doesn't like signing cards cause he know the person just trying to make a buck.

Don't do it. It looks cool signed, in my opinion!

A click eraser might work. I've used it to remove sharpie from photos, full size nfl helmet and a mini helmet. Since there is a gloss to the card, it might remove the sharpie and not damage the card.

Isn't there a card from the same set, featuring lesser known players, which would cost you a few dozen $$, and on which you could try all the chemicals that you like?
