I won this card by "accident" last night when goofing around in Razzes. It's serial numbered 5/5 and comes from Gold Standard.
I don't collect basketball cards and just thought it looked cool and everyone was just waiting for one last spot to be filled so I went in on a gut feeling. I have no idea what I'm going to do with the card once the warm fuzzy feeling of winning it wears off since it would look funny in my Bears PC. lol
Basketball cards are completely foreign to me. I was just blown away at what his autographs were bringing on ebay when I looked last night. Is there any way someone here could help me out on setting a value on thid thing without seeing it? I can't even find a picture of it on google.
Any help would be great!

We'd have to see a picture in order to properly evaluate the card. Something tells me it it is likely a fake, probably because Wilt only had a few known certified autographs. It may be a Scoreboard fake as well...

Gold Standard? So it's presumably a cut auto? If so, I'm surprised I haven't seen any photos of this card in their promotional materials.
auto? is it a cut? he passed away long time ago. I am not aware he has an auto in any gold standard release. I don't think gold standard has any cut auto.

How is it possible to have Wilt Chamberlain sigining on a Gold Standard card?
bstraw53
02-21-2014, 01:53 PM
Yes, as far as I know its a Cut. Like I said. I had no business in the Razz I was a little tippsy to begin with and on a high from a Walter Payton I had just won... I wish it were recorded but the IM from the guy said it was Gold standard.

Wilt Chamberlain died in 1999......................................
Gold Standard is only a few years old.............................
LOL
You can't find a picture of it on Google because it doesn't exist, or your entire story doesn't exist...

What? Why would I make this up? I go by the same name on Breakers TV.
In fact i will bet you a year long signature to be made up by the loser, for the other that I post a picture of this card next week.
Razzr was the one who razzed it at around 10:00pm last night.

He won it via razz so he doesn't have in-hand yet.
I believe him, though I think it's just one of those ugly cut autos from Leaf or something...

Well, part of the reason I'm asking is because I looked the guy up by his screen name last night in google because he would not verify goods in paypal after i payed him to print a label. And it came up with a bunch of other fairly nice basketball cards on ebay by the same seller name. I wanted to ask more about the card since I saw what they were asking for on ebay. No reply as of yet.
No Wilt on there though. (he may have removed it after I won it in a razz)
I just wanted someone to correct me and tell me it was something else and not what I "thought" i won. I looked at sites to see if I could locate it on a checklist with no luck.. I know for a fact it said 5/5 on the back though.

Would you mind sharing this person's Ebay ID with the rest of us?
what is the seller's user name?
The only Chamberlain auto /5 listed on Beckett is this: 2007-08 Upper Deck Premier Stitchings Patches Autographs #PSCH Wilt Chamberlain.

avoz28 is his seller name.
I have no doubt I'll receive my card. People vouched for him when I asked why he was not replying to my IMS and my buddy said he saw him in other rooms at the same time. I'm just trying to figure out what one it is lol. I'll admit. I am new to Razzes. I have done a lot of breaks but just got into the razz part.
yeah, he is around on breakers a lot. He is also a member here. Just wondering what the card is.

So you saw the back of the card but not the front of the card?!
This is getting confusing. Are you even sure it was Wilt??? The guy's been dead for over a decade. For Panini to get 5 cut autos of Wilt is an accomplishment on its own.

Never been a member. I do bet sigs on a Bears fan forum a lot. Just thought it was common practice on message boards.
It's funny to me some of the connections people put together to try and put others down. I had a serious question, gave all the details I could, answered all the questions that were asked the best I could and it led to an answer that made me look silly. I owned up to it and moved on... Gave thanks to those who helped.
Must be a banned member.

It where someone takes a $200 card and raffles it off. The sell 20 chances at $15 so they get $300 for their $300 card.

Thats not acurate at all in my experience. Most rooms will not allow a card to razz for more than the last one or an average of the past few have sold for on ebay. in most cases they end up going for a total less than you would see other places.
bstraw53
02-21-2014, 07:27 PM
a $200 card would sell at 10 spots of $20.
bstraw53
02-21-2014, 07:42 PM
For instance the walter Payton Autograph I won last night went for 10 spots of $14.. I bought 7 spots at $98 and then the other 3 people paid $14 each for a spot.
They list everyones name on a randomizer and roll a dice to see how many times the list gets randomized.. in this case it was 7 times. after 7 random mixes my name was on top.

but there was a %30 chance i would lose after paying $98.. But they would have won that card for $14.. you tell me what its worth.. I would say more than $140. But ill never sell it. I'm a huge Bears fan.

And there was only 1 Payton auto I saw sell on Ebay for the about grossed by the "razzer". MOST sold for less than $100 which would net him 90 on Ebay.
So he got maybe 130 after fees and shipping. Almost 50% above average.

The payton that i linked a picture of is worth $100 you say? I'm a life long Bears collector and i know it means nothing to you... but you are way wrong.
Different card but from the same year here asking $250.. with a way worse auto.

You can't quote an unsold auction? Someone could price theirs and list it at $250,000 ... that doesn't make it worth that much! The only way to gauge value is to average CONFIRMED sales. Even eBay completed auctions aren't enough proof. Auctions get shilled, cancelled after completion & relisted, tampered, etc.

Looks like they average around $120/125.
I know people like razzes, but I think they're BS. It's just a way for someone to sell a card they are are not sure will sell for how much they want, and guarantee they get their wanted price.
Razzes are just another indication of why this hobby is tanking for "collectors".
Razzes are essentially a gamble, someone trying to get a high value card for a few bucks. "Group Breaks" are the same -- someone trying to get the case hit on a $2000 case for $50 spot.
Half of the active people on these boards are here to try and make money, and the hobby has just turned into a giant gambling ring. Most of the people that break wax have their hits on eBay so fast it's incredible. They don't pull a nice card and say "WOW THIS IS AN AWESOME CARD FOR MY COLLECTION!" They say: "WOW, I WONDER HOW MUCH THIS WILL GET ON EBAYYYYY!!!!!" and BAM it's up for sale!
What irks me most is the people who have Blowout or other places actually open their boxes for them ... CMON! Are you literally that lazy or that addicted to gambling and in such fiending frenzy that you can't wait for the box to be shipped to you? Remember when people had fun opening packs of cards? Now people rip through them and toss the base cards away looking for the case hit. Or you have these guys who open case upon case of $2000 product and look like they're trying to win a race or set a Guiness World Record ... I remember going to shows/shops and seeing people actually enjoy the hobby as collectors ... now it just looks/feels/seems like a dog race track!
It is what it is, but that's what it is!

I respect your opinion and views. But just because you like your hoby your way does not mean that others can't enjoy it their way.. I understand a lot of what you are saying but I also see the other side too. I opened two hobby boxes last night in my own house.. I spent over $200 and got 5 autos worth NOTHING. I jumped on a razz, spent around the same amount of money and won a monte ball auto /25, Peyton Manning /25 auto and a walter payton /40 non auto nat treasures insert..
Say what u want about me selling.. I may or may not sell some of these.. But I got two rare cards for my pc and a few cards that are actually valuable.. I still get a rush due to it being a gamble. (Just like opening a box)
Will I lose money overall? I don't know, depends on my luck.. Just like busting wax. But I know for a fact if I do win I'm getting what I put my money towards.
