View Full Version : What's the correct definition of Master Set (Heritage)? Is there one?

With Heritage coming out soon, I'm wondering what is the correct terminology in calling something a Master Set. I think it used to mean 1-500 + insert sets. However, what about all the variations? I'm sure some collectors would consider those would need to be required to call it a Master Set. Or does having all those make it a SUPER Master Set? Even then, I'm still not considering autos, relics, chrome, minis, SSPs, etc. I know there are some crazy collectors that try to get Everything. Wouldn't that be the true Master Set?
Can someone break this all down in simplistic terms?

Base + Base SPs + Inserts is typically an official MASTER set. This is especially true for Heritage. Short prints, autos, relics, chromes, etc. are not usually considered, as those sets would be worth thousands when completed and very difficult to make.

For Topps Heritage most consider a master set = Base + High number SP's + Inserts.
Generally SSP cards and chrome/parallels are not considered part of a master set.

Thanks for confirming my thinking. Was going to list one and didn't know if there would be extra (ordinary) expectations by the potential buyer.
BTW, What's the best method for shipping a Heritage Master set? I know a base set will barely fit into a prepaid bubble envelope, so that option is out. What's the (best) next size up?

2 300-CT boxes will fit horizontally in a padded flat rate mailer. If you can break the master set down to fit that way, I'd say that's your best bet.

The base set will fill up 2 300 ct boxes alone since the cards are fairly thick. Adding the SPs & inserts would probably fill an additional 200 ct box.

Yup best bet is a Regional Rate Box or Medium Flate Rate after that
