View Full Version : Could Buxton end up being like B.J. Upton?

Just a hypothetical question for all of you. Remember when B.J. Upton was all the rage in Tampa and made it to the majors at 19 most people thought he was a surefire superstar in the making. Looking at their minor league numbers, Upton was very dominant for his age as he put up a .297 .390 .431 at 18 in Low A and AA and his age 19 season which was Buxton age last year a .315 .410 .505 line in AA-AAA. Now I am saying this could end up being Buxton's worst case. Just something to think about regarding top 3 prospects as B.J was ranked #2 by BA in 2004.

Weird, you are comparing Low A numbers of one player to the number in AA-AAA for another. That adds up.
We get it, you do not think much of Buxton. Someone always has to be contrary to every scout saying he is hands down the best prospect in baseball. Only one can be right. Way to go out on a limb and play the odds.

Higher floor, better development now-a-days. Wouldn't put my money on it.

I caught that too. Not only was he comparing Buxton against a player at a lower level but Buxton's numbers were still significantly better across the board. That doesn't mean Buxton won't have a better or worse career than Upton but the comparison was wrong on its face.

Of course he could! He could also end up being like Ted Williams.

A few seasons ago I made a player comparison on Heyward being similar to J. Dye. I will say Buxton will be a similar player to D. Winfield. :flex:

Even with the difference in leagues (some overlap), Buxton had better numbers by a healthy margin.

You guys do realize both sets of numbers he put up there are of BJ Upton right? None of those stats are from Buxton.

Lol, ummmmm, errrrrrr, uhhhhhhh. Squirrel !!!!!
If we want to compare Twins vs Rays top prospects former and present. Better chance Miguel Sano becomes Delmon Young, rather than Byron Buxton becoming BJ Upton. IMHO.

You realize he is making a player comparison and that Buxton's line at age 19 was, .334/.424/.520
He was wanting to compare age and levels, both of which are not close.
I know how to read but also understand that perhaps the OP needs to learn how to write. His post does not make any sense and his comparison is weak.
