Some of the comments are amusing and insightful about peoples perception of our hobby. The one below made me chuckle. Uh, ok.
"Maybe they're a bit lazy since baseball cards don't sell more than $20 a year... oh and it's hard to photograph someone on the IR"

I personally like when Topps uses funny looking/unique photos. I wish they would do these more often and not make them SSPs.

I have to agree. I personally would never look at a Werth card while flipping through cards but on pics like this I do stop and check it out. I would think he would like that. It breaks up the monotony. Heck, look at this thread and the multiple articles about it.

When he was rehabbing a couple of years ago I was trying to get his autograph and handed him a 2011 lineage card (i believe) and he handed it back to me and said, sorry I don't like this card, I only sign cards I like. Thought it was pretty funny, he was really nice about it and I was able to get a laugh out of it.

I think it's cool that there is a player who actually cares about his card. Shows he has at least some respect for the hobby.

Didn't they say Schumaker didn't like the squirrel being on his card this time last year? Is this an advertising tactic by Topps?

If anyone has a complaint about having to share a card with somebody it's A.J. Ellis.

I don't KNOW this to be true, but I have heard that Werth is a bit of a d!ck about everything.

You should have handed him a Gio Gonzalez card and asked him sign it.

The card looks like it should be Werth's. I agree not a good photo.

So Topps just uses Getty Images to get pictures for their cards? Is that considered public domain or do they pay for each picture used?

He'll get over it. He's getting paid millions to play a game. The least he can do is deal with a baseball card where he shares the photo with someone else. Heck, I'd give my left nut to be on a topps baseball card(as a player, of course).

Skip Shumaker(or however its spelled). And I think Daniel Hudson was mad that they used a picture of him blowing out his arm.

Precisely. I'm sure they pay to use the images, they're not public domain. The original article mentions that the image was taken from the Washington Post.
Y! SPORTS (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/jayson-werth-would-like-a-word-regarding-his-baseball-card-190726056.html)
This is why we see the same images over and over. Topps dumped the last of their baseball photographers a few years ago and just scans the internet for images that newspapers and the AP took. I would think it'd still be cheaper to send a photographer to Arizona and Florida each spring and get most of their photos there. I'd prefer it if it gave them better quality and more options.
If you look really closely, you'll see some cards have better resolutions than others. I'm guessing that's because the images are shot on different cameras and are different file sizes.

I love that show but the joke at the beginning is always just so terrible.

So Werth signed the Topps card he didn't like, along with Desmond and Rendon. Topps should come out with triple autos like this!
