The "Autographics" word on the front looks quite suspicious (just compare it with any legit card from this set and you'll see).
Also, while the signature looks good, the card condition looks just too perfect...it might be just me, but I can't see any chipping on the edges.

BIG RED FLAG

Also noticed that these cards usually are black color ink (maybe faded over time from blue), but the Pippen is blue. Maybe it was just well preserve.
Well, this one is blue ink too, maybe just the Pippen has blue ink.

As far as the card goes... They might be using a marker most likely to improve the appeal. But the autograph is good.

Looks real to me. Now that kukoc is something else....that might be the worst autograph I've ever seen from a player. And I've seen some junk autos. Looks like a 3 year old signed that. My only question would be that they didn't provide a picture of the back. If that would have been provided that would make me more comfortable. But these days anything can be faked!

If that's the case, then the card should at least be considered as altered, which to many collectors, well, is just as good as being fake. :(
But no chippings on the edges is most likely a big red flag. Of course, the card could be trimmed, but then it would be, again, treated as altered.

According to Beckett, all Pippen cards are signed in blue ink, but there have been discussions for sometime that very few black ink Pippen cards do indeed exist (slobbythegreat has one).
Also, aside from a few exceptions (Pippen, Olajuwon, Garnett), all players from this set signed their first 100 cards in blue ink, then the rest in black ink.

BIG RED FLAG
Big red flag is right! I'm surprised no one has replied to your post yet. It makes no sense that the A and a on the Pippen does not have a whole in the center of the letter.

you couldnt get a more perfect auto on that card. The A and the a could be a problem but with the auto its damn near perfect which is suggesting its TOO good to be true. I havent seen any auto on any card that his signed as good as that one.

Looks off to me. The uppercase "A" and lowercase "a" in "Autographics" are off. If you look closely, there is no dot to the "i" of "Autographics" and the cursive font for the "cs" in "Autographics" is slightly different.

John Wallace never signed in blue ink for that set.
And yes that is indeed a counterfeit Scottie Pippen.

Actually, John Wallace did sign blue ink cards (mentioned once in an old Beckett magazine). It's just that these cards couldn't make the deadline, unfortunately.

I find it hard to believe they couldn't fit those 100 cards into the multiple product lines they had that year. Not to mention how or why we haven't seen them since the bankruptcy auction.
Just because it was mentioned in Beckett doesn't make it true. Especially considering their checklists for those sets aren't 100% correct for the Autographics sets put out in the 90's.
bjho852
03-27-2014, 01:22 PM
The 1996-97 set is the one that Beckett has it correct though.
Plus, they got the info about John Wallace blue ink cards directly from Fleer/SkyBox back then. It's possible that the company had destroyed all the cards between then and bankruptcy.
The company did attempt to insert these cards into the then-new E-X2000 product - a product released late in the season. Guess that John Wallace signed them VERY late?

They "destroyed" the blue ink John Wallace's but they were putting 99-00 Autographics into 00-01 Fleer rack packs a year later? That just doesn't add up.

Rack packs don't contain ALL Autographics cards from the late 90's though, only some of them - none from the 1996-97 set that I know of.
Considering the number of years between the rack pack release and the inaugural 1996-97 release, I am not surprised that they are indeed destroyed because they are not inserted into packs to begin with, especially if the company hadn't come up with the rack pack idea yet.
Even if they were inserted, supposedly (at least back then), companies DID destroy the old cards in their inventory once the replacement/redemption period expired, unless, well, something like rack pack or other reasons came up.
Either way, Beckett was still reputable back then. I trust that info for the 1996-97 set.

Do you have any proof to back this claim up or is this just an assumption?
