Super-newbie question here.... :o

Up until now I've only been purchasing cards (which I went crazy on over the last year).

Thinking of selling off quite a bit on eBay to help fund the habit, which I have never done before.

I've read that it's a great practice to use a separate eBay seller account, so your purchases are not associated with your sales. But, do people who do this use the same Paypal account for both eBay accounts?

If so, then aren't you associating the two ebay accounts if you've ever bought from and sold to the same person? Won't they see the same paypal information for both, and then you've basically linked the ebay identities together?

(I know Paypal limits you to one personal and then one business account. This is just a hobby for me, not a business, so I didn't really want to make a separate paypal business account. But, I was wondering if there's a better way to do this to keep the paypal information separate as well. Maybe some people just make two separate personal paypal accounts?)

Sorry, again, for the newbie question. Just trying to figure out what the bigger sellers tend to do... especially if this is still treated as a hobby for them.

Thanks!

You can link any number of email addresses to the same Paypal account. Your seller has no way of knowing that gobears@ hotmail.com is the same person as gobears@ gmail.com, nor do they have much of a reason to care.

If you're buying on eBay and reselling on eBay, it can be prudent to have a separate account for buying and selling. I had an annoying episode a while back when I purchased something at eBay auction for $42 and relisted it on eBay as a buy it now for $2,000. But it doesn't need to be that extreme. If you have an item listed on eBay for $100 and anyone looking at your feedback page can clearly see you bought it for $20, then it can cause problems.

If you're buying a lot of personal items on eBay, it can be useful to have a separate buying account. For instance, if you're buying sexy lingerie for your girlfriend, it can be awkward if your girlfriend sees it on your feedback page. It can be even more awkward if your wife sees it on your feedback page.

If your selling account has been dinged by a bad feedback or a low DSR, it might be useful to have a second or third account which you can sell from for a while while the bad DSR's fall off. This varies in usefulness as eBay rules change.

There are other good reasons for having a separate buying and selling ID. There aren't any major drawbacks to having a separate buying and selling ID. So a lot of people have separate buying and selling ID's.

I only have one and have always thought it shady to have more than one. Then I joined this place. :D I have since had BO members (more than once) carry a dispute from here over to there. In one case they bought an item for the sole purpose of filing an Ebay neg on me. Luckily they were an idiot which is obvious enough by the act itself, but they were dumb enough to admit it in print and Paypal/Ebay fixed it. I still have only one account although I no longer link it here for obvious reasons. There are valid reasons for more than one but just not for me.

In 2009 on the Ebay boards there were several members who ganged together and started targeting sellers who they did not agree with. I know of at least 5 sellers who are permantly banned from selling on Ebay as a result of this group. That is one reason I don't link my Ebay ID either, too many would run to Ebay to buy something just to leave a neg.

each ebay acct needs its own email, both can go to the same paypal, buyer will not know. Alot of people have 2, 1 buying, 1 selling just for their own convenience of the seperation

have to disagree with you on this one. Like multiple credit cards, bank accounts, savings, checking, cars, phones, houses, girlfriends, shoes and anything else. people have reasons.

For me , like different credit cards and bank accounts. i separate buying for PC and business. It is much more easier to separate business from personal expenses when different ebay accounts and credit cards are used. I have a credit card for gas only, cards only, business and pc. Ebay accounts to buy , cards, personal junk and selling. I have 4 phone numbers for personal , family, back up reception and nonsense . Cars for long distance, sundays and short trips.

You aren't really disagreeing with me, please see my last line. I am aware there are valid reasons, I just choose to have one myself. We are on the same page, yay. :flex:

Great responses. Thank you!

Paypal has a primary email address. I have had times where I used a secondary email address to buy something on eBay, but the checkout process sometimes pushes me into using my primary email address. (Not always, which is pretty confusing.)

That's just in "buyer mode", but it's why I was concerned that Paypal might show the primary email address in correspondence sent to others when you are the seller, too.

If I can add a secondary Paypal email address to use for an eBay "seller account", and Paypal will ONLY use that secondary address for me as the seller, then that solves everything.

That just made my day....

So there's no way to hide what you bought?
Does it nor disappear after a while?
