As an Ebay seller, I'm trying to understand the exact rules of late payments. I've read their documentation, but it's just too broad. Hoping for some clarification here.

Here's the item in question:

2009 Allen & Ginter's #276 - Michael Phelps, Swimmer - eBay (item 200459782908 end time Apr-16-10 15:13:56 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200459782908&ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT)

Sold on April 16th.

I sent a friendly invoice on April 19th. (I like to give buyers 2-3 days to pay on their own without bothering them)

Today it's April 25th. I haven't heard anything from the buyer at all, not a single thing.

If I open an unpaid item ticket with Ebay, and the buyer still doesn't pay, and then Ebay closes the auction, I get my fees back, and then leave the buyer negative feedback.... will the buyer be able to leave me feedback? If so, I imagine it will be negative. It's a very small amount, and more important to me than the $1.04 is my positive feedback rating.

I would be curious what other, more experienced, sellers do in this situation.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Alex

Alex, first of all you cannot leave the buyer negative feedback. Sellers can only leave positive feedback. If you open an unpaid item dispute and the buyer does not respond to it within the set time period then you can get your final value fees back and the buyer will not be able to leave you feedback.

what makes you think you can leave the buyer negative feedback?

i file after 4 days. if there is no payment after 4 more days, i close. even if the buyer leaves you a negative, after a year it won't count towards your rating.

Okay, thanks for the info. I opened an unpaid item case.

I care about my positive feedback because my rating is still very low (49), and I think buyers might notice a bad feedback and be wary. Once I have a high rating, I might not care so much.

That's fine if I can't leave feedback for an unpaid item. But it seems like there should be some record kept of when/how often buyers win an auction and don't pay, and then they should get booted from Ebay after repeated offenses, right? Otherwise people could use bogus accounts like that for shill bidding and such.

They do have a penalty for repeat offenders for not paying, if they have 3 unpaid items they get kicked off ebay.

I might suggest that you put a time period in which you want to receive payment in your listing. You can also use the Unpaid Item Assistant to automatically file for unpaid items after the time period you specify.
