Personally I think there are too many high grade copies to expect much of a rise in the near future. Just my 2 cents

there are a lot of high grade copies out there, but at the same time it is the first appearance of Deadpool who's a hugely popular character and it is only a matter of time before he gets his own movie. If you can score one for around $375-$400 or so I'd go for it.

depends on what floor you get in on

I just looked at the cgc census.
there are 1238 books in 9.8
there are 1388 books in 9.6
seems like a lot to me.......
like the other post said....depends on where you get in on the book.

No brainer, it will go up every few months even if there is no movie news. I get more calls with people looking for New Mutants 98 than any other book in existence.

Really? Wow. Yea...when my LCS gets a raw copy or two in its immediately gone! A lot of the other same old stuff just sits there.

I concur with the last 2 posts. It's a modern day key first appearance of a popular character. If you can get a NM raw for 100 or less grab it as it won't sit for sale long at lcs.

If you get the chance to buy the 1st appearance of a character like Deadpool, Harley Quinn, Venom, etc. you buy it unless they are asking a unfair price.
10.0 NM 98 went for $16000, the highest paid modern on record. That shows major interest. :)!

Deadpool fans are crazy. The #27 Taco Time variant is currently selling for 150-165 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261448379195) ungraded.. can't wait to see what graded copies go for.
Deadpool and Harley Quinn both sell like crazy here in Indy.

Well, I picked up a CGC 9.8 at the LCS. I was asking about it being a good investment because every time I go there the book is marked up little by little...
I think I overpaid for it no doubt, but it is a LCS and they are higher than the net.
Anyone wanna guess how much I paid?

$375- $400.

I've not followed Deadpool in a while, is he becoming a caricature of the original character (based on how I've seen a lot of the covers) and is more like Marvel's The Impossible Man or DC's Ambush Bug, and a tad more slapstick than badazz?
The character name and design are good, but based on the overexposure and over-saturation, it's clear he's popular in one breath, but in another breath there may be a backlash of fatigue if there's too much quantity and not enough quality out there in terms of story and art for the character to be supported by.
New Mutants #98 is a solid book 'tho, what's seemingly new to an older generation is old to a new generation, so it feels like it's a modern book of sort, but really isn't. The print run is huge and there are a lot of issues out there, many in high grade, but I think the demand is greater than the supply so it's a solid buy to keep, but as everyone has touted, it's only a good buy at a good price.

he said he overpaid ;) that's about what they go for on the bay so I'm guessing he's probably closer to $450-$475 maybe?

This may not mean anything but I was at a major con last weekend and I saw only one copy of this book and it was not in mint condition.

and yea. He's my fav.

$500 is not horrible. I've seen people pay way more. You used the word "investment", so I guess your not looking for a quick flip. That makes you safe in my book.

It'll probably be before the x-force movie or maybe after but either way he'll show up in x-force I'm almost positive.

Yea. 500 at a LCS. A little high imo but I plan on keeping it for awhile.

Think that will increase the value? I hope so. I'm not really good at prospecting or investing lol. I seem to always lose out :(

Oh I would think so especially if you see the Deadpool vs Cable from the comic book run. I remember as a kid that was a fun ride.

Someone is selling a 9.8 on CGC for 399 shipped. Seems like they sell cheaper there than eBay or anywhere else. A LCS would be the least desirable place to obtain one.

Crack it for ss. If you wait another year or so it might get up to the $500 price tag, might not.

Dont know...Its a bit overpriced for me for such a modern book that is not that hard to get a hold of and has tons of high graded copies out there....If you can get cheap copies then of course. If you are going to flip short term, sure....paying $400 for one hoping it will be $2000 years from now?? No way..Hes super popular and I get that but LONG term investment ????.....ehhhhh....not so much. I think it will come back to earth.

He is overused to be true but so was wolverine back in the 90s. I remember I saw wolverine everywhere an people used to dress up as him all the time. Now you know what see when I see pics of comic cons or clips from shows. People dressed up as deadpool and Harley Quinn. Now you see deadpool and Harley in everything. Once a character becomes a pop culture icon then who knows how high their first appearance will go. Deadpool is getting there but not yet. I will say this. If you start to see people wearing deadpool t-shirts then he is there.
I started loving deadpool back during the joe Kelly run (I think his best comic run to date). I bought a few 98s for $60 about 3 years ago back when people called me a lunatic and a fool for buying a book the went up and down so much. But I still see room for it to grow. Is it a hulk 181? No. But is it a ASM 300, a book that may be a bit over valued, high print run, but still is hugely popular, and has insane demand? I think so. Even now I still see people dressed as venom and wearing venom t-shirts!

If marvel writers get their head out of their butts and start writing great stories I see x-23's first appearance soaring high in the clouds. I mean this is basically the new gen wolverine and nyx #3 has a low print run and not to mention a cover that catches your eye!

we sold our last one at 150 raw last week it comes in sits for a week and sells 10 bucks more then the one before it
seems to be way high for a high print run common
nyx 3 has a lot of room as does many other later modern low print run books
look at all the early new 52 stuff all doing well
just got a batman 1 1 in 25 EVS cover and it went for 100 in a day

In the 3-5 years this will be a $1,000 book no problem. If you have the money and you can afford to hold on to it for a while, buy at $500.
