PLEASE NOTE: I FOUND THIS LINK AFTER POSTING THIS. IT APPEARS IT'S HIS SCANNER REMOVING THE "/".
I'D STILL LIKE TO GET AN OPINION ON THE POSSIBILITY OF FAKES
http://www.blowoutcards.com/forums/basketball/692784-something-odd-probstein123s-listings.html
First let me start by saying I buy a ton of stuff from Probstein and would never accuse him/her of knowingly selling a fake card. That seller is one of the most reputable on eBay and I have no problem buying from them.
Now that that's out of the way, I'd like to get everyone's opinion as I'm considering bidding on this card:
2009 Bowman Aflac BH Bryce Harper Rookie RC Auto 71 230 PSA 10 Gem Mint | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-Bowman-Aflac-BH-Bryce-Harper-Rookie-RC-AUTO-71-230-PSA-10-GEM-MINT-/380881001699?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item58ae46dce3)
When I first saw this card, the first thing that jumped out at me was the serial number was missing the "/" that divides the two sides. I initially thought this might just be a print error but in my experience, there is usually an indention in between if no ink was printed (which there doesn't appear to be on this one). The "071" also appears to be out of alignment (possibly each number was added separately). I then decided to look at the autograph as it looked nice and bold and noticed it was a different style than most of the others (much more compact and bold).
Am I imagining things or does this card have the potential to turn into the next "Pujols Fleer Legacy?" From what I can tell, there is nothing different about the non-auto version and the auto version other than the serial number so I'd think it could be relatively easy to turn a $100 card into a $1,000 card simply by either getting Harper to sign or forging it yourself.
Thoughts?
