He's a living legend, and deserves whatever he can get for his work.
As far as purchasing a commission as an investment, I don't think it's a great idea, because he is so prolific, and there's so much Neal Adams original art out there.:coffee:

For this sort of thing, I'd suggest saving up over 2 grand and try to get a Batman with <fill in the blank> character that Neal has never drawn before...then you'd have something unique.
Like, has Neal Adams ever drawn Batman with a naked Kim Kardashian?? I think not! Feel free to take that idea, and your 4 grand, and run with it.:)!

With Neal Adams commissions... Go big or go home... So, I'd say he's definitely worth it, but only at the $500+ range, and I'd recommend the 11" x 14" torso or the 8.5" x 11" full figure in that $1k range. If you look at what current artists who don't have the body of work Neal Adams has, and what they charge at conventions, Neal is 2x as old (meaning he's not going to be around forever) and far more a sure thing (like comparing rookies and prospects in sports to all-stars and hall of famers). The quality of his work is still sharp. Sure, not as great as the published work he did in the 1970's, but those are out of reach in affordability and scarcity to most, so a happy compromise is to get a commission if you collect his art and love his style.

8.5 x 11 Torso of the Black Canary would look nice on the ol' art wall.

He is such an awesome guy to talk to while he is doing your sketch. I definitely cherish the Joker he did for me to face Jim Lee's Batman.
