View Full Version : Anyone pre order a case of Archives? Yes... I'm that bored.
I know a lot of people think Archives is a bit lame/overpriced but I ordered a few cases. I ordered 2 off of blowout but then they ran out so bought one more from a different site. I am really interested in the Major League insert set...
I'm wondering if they slid anything else in the spot of the Warriors insert set? Or if somehow a few might slip in and be worth a decent amount... Although it was a pretty lame set to begin with.
I'd love to pull a Sheen auto but it'd probably go for 500 bucks so I would most likely sell it if I did.
Anyway... rambling out of boredom and its raining.

I'm in for a few cases, and can't wait until it comes out. I did OK with it last year. Lost a little, but I kept a lot of cards for myself. The SPs always sell well.
I think this year could be great with the Major League subset. The autos should do better than the rockers did last year. Being that they're all live will be a big help. Also hoping they have a non-auto version as well. Those sets would sell pretty good.

I bought a case - my first case ever. I love Archives. Unlike 98% of the people on here, I actually buy cards for me and not for Ebay.
I love the old designs from my childhood. Really looking forward to the '89 design this year. I'll probably build a set of the '89 design /199's and /99's and try to get as many of the '89 printing plates as I can. Similar to what I did / am doing with last year's 1990 design.
What's always been Archives' biggest downfall in the past years for me at least seems to have been fixed (at least somewhat) this year in that the fan favorites autographs actually features more than one or two players whose autos I wouldn't mind having.
Plus, the Major League cards. Those are going to have crossover potential for all the rippers and flippers out there. Two of my co-workers who don't buy cards are already planning on trying to get their hands on some.
Lastly, if either of you guys pull printing plates of the '89 design when you open your cases, feel free to PM me and I'll give you fair value for 'em.
*Also (this is the edited portion) I just want to mention I have nothing against the 'ripping and flipping.' I just don't do it myself. Those who do are responsible for most of the best cards in my collection so obviously I want you all to keep doing it.

BIG archives fan here as well, and would be interested in any yankees FFA's, maybe some SP's (depending on what i pull from the 2 boxes i plan on picking up when i get back from my honeymoon next week), and possibly a jose abreu auto too depending on what design they use for him. oddly enough, not really that interested in the Major League autos.
YTMNick, did you see a FFA checklist yet? i can't seem to find one in the usual spots (cardboard connection, sportscardradio)

I keep a set from the case/cases I break and usually sell off most of the rest. I keep the Reds inserts that I like. I was 9 when the 89 Topps was out and we had a card shop the next year, so even though theres not a ton great cards in the set it brings back good memories.
I am also hoping that the major league inserts also have base cards that arent crazy hard to find. A ton of people would love to have the set.
Have they released the entire checklist for archives or for the Major League insert set yet?

Just saw the checklist... great for an Eric Davis fan!
Looks like the Major League set will be a regular insert set (not just /10 auto's etc...) so thats great.

I look forward to picking these up on the cheap about 4-5 days after release. Last year you were able to pick up autos under $5 for some fairly well known names.

Ouch, the retired star power in the autos is severely lacking in the FF autos and insert autos. I'm glad, bc now I'll save money.

I think there are less big dollar names but there are a lot of $20 names instead of $5-10 names. More guys from the 80's and 90s that younger people will like. Overall I like the list. Plus I plan on getting 3 or 4 Abreu auto's at least (joking).

True, but it used to be a larger list of autos and would include guys like Brett, Ryan, etc, not to mention biggies like Aaron and Koufax. They are slowly watering down this product.
Tons of Reds auto's/inserts. Any Reds fan in a team break should be happy.

I busted a case each from the past 2 years and all of the auto's were HORRID. Like you, I would love a shot at Ryan or Brett or Mays... but I'm happier with the list overall. There were probably 10 guys in last years auto's I had a hard time remembering that played in the 80s or 90s! At least I know everyone from this list and most are well followed guys. Not a lot of Dick Groat person collections out there... there are only a handful of guys in the auto list who werent stars at some point.

I am so bummed there aren't any fan favorite autos for the Tigers. :(

Sean Casey was a Tiger for a bit... close enough?
When there are 4 Reds out of 40 autos I imagined they'd alienate some cities by now having them. You'd think they'd try to cover each team.

I don't know, but I'll definitely be picking up an Eddie Harris autograph.

By far my favorite product to open. I plan on PC'ing everything this year, so I'm gonna wait for the case price to drop.

Decided to skip Archives this year, two straight years the product went way down a few weeks after release. The value can be there, but I'd rather try it when boxes aren't 85 a box.

Looks like it would be a real fun break but pretty much a loser money wise. I *may* pick up a case of it just to try and get some PC cards and whatever.
The autograph checklist is pretty much lacking all the big current and retired players. There are some decent names in there but only a few of the players on the Fan Favorites could actually sell for over $30 (Jose Abreu, Mark McGwire, Rickey Henderson, Jose Canseco). I do see some PC players on the insert autograph checklist so I'll be buying some singles for sure.

I agree its a great product to wait on. I think things like the major league cards will sell high the first week or so and Abreu is still hot along with Tanaka. Aside from Allen and Ginter I dont have anything heading my way the next 6 weeks, so figured I'd roll the dice on this one.
Gary Carter is an auto in the 1987 All Star inserts. Cut auto or do they keep stickers on hand for years? Gary died over 2 years ago, I was surprised to see him on the list.

They have an over abundance of Gary Carter autographed stickers. Same with Duke Snider. They probably have nearly an unlimited amount of them, probably won't run out of them for another ten years.

Thanks. Figured. Happy to be able to pull a Gary Carter but an do I hate the stickers. What happens when in 15 years all these stickers start peeling off the cards? They probably wont, but I hate any sticker autograph... not a fan of the cut auto's but I'd rather have them than a sticker.

So if I'm looking right, it appears there are no autographs of Giants listed in any of the auto sets. That's lame.

I didn't see any. I agree its a little off.
From the main auto insert list the Mets have 5, Reds and Braves 4, A's and Yankees 3 .... So half of the basic auto's are taken up by 5 teams. There are going to be a few really happy team breaks and a lot of angry team breaks with the way the auto's are laid out.

As an A's fan it's nice to see them well-represented in the autos for a change.

Thanks Joe! Shot for the moon and we're headed down to St. Barts on Tuesday after the wedding this Sunday. I put the over/under on the new wife telling me to stop checking eBay at 15.
Hit me up if you pull any Yankee autos you'd be apt to move... if I have any cash left after this trip, I'm definitely interested!

I thought Uecker signed for this, but don't see him anywhere on the checklist.
Did I confuse that with this year's Heritage maybe?
