Im collecting a Rookie player from 2013 Ryan Nassib and have long checklist of his cards that ive made. And today while I was looking at it I was woundering how many different Sets are their. not counting the Sub-Sets, just the mian one (or how many different types of Boxes can be bought). I came up with 50 (not countign the Panini special sets, Fathers Day, Black Friday, etc..). Heres what I have, tell me if Im missing any:

Wow that's ridiculous.
I'm really noticing it this year as this is the first time I'm really focusing on one player. (Allen Robinson) At first I'm like "yeah, I'll get cards of him from each set that come out!"
Well the season doesn't start for 2 months and I'm already choosing which sets to avoid altogether.
While both big companies put out waaaaay too many products, I'm sticking with mostly Topps from here on out.

I would like 1-2 low end, 1-2 mid-range and 1 high end set for the manufacturers. But I know that is unrealistic so I will just buy what I am interested in and try to grab singles of other stuff where I can.

Topps Chrome Mini as well.
I agree with another post, in that you should pick your top ten favorite sets and go for a very decent PC.
Maybe that another thread altogether...Since most of us there are too many sets, what are the top 10 sets for a PC this year. The list would slightly differ from year to year based on looks and your preferences but Chrome, Contenders, NT, would be on most everyone's list I assume.

Maybe 1 or 2 experimental products is all you need per year.

I was pretty picky about what sets I was buying from when I decided to do a nice player collection in 2012.
I mostly decided based on two things. First was if I liked the design. Then I bought by rarity. I dont know who started the term "Super-Collector" but its a pipe dream nowadays to think you could own a large percentage of cards with so many parallels and releases.

Thankfully I wasn't a super fan of any of the 2014 rookies in college, the Cowboys didn't draft a skill player until the fifth round, and not a single Longhorn was drafted......this will be an easy year to resist the urge to go all out. I can focus on older sets.

I wouldn't really call it a pipe dream. Its difficult yes.....but really what makes it hard are the retail inserts that you may never see. I super collect gronk and didn't even get started until the new 2012 products were being released so I was two seasons behind on his cards and his rookie year has about 560 not counting 1/1s and i've managed to get about 80% of the cards from 2010 and 90+ % since....and I am by no means rich and his cards were selling really high when I started. His NT rc was selling for $225+ now it can be had for $115 sometimes...or less. Anyway I'm at 900+ different cards and 200+ different autos. I wouldn't call it a pipe dream unless you are trying for all 1/1s too....then yes it's a pipe dream.
I'm only going to critique the fully licensed cards:
Upper Deck - Decent, a flagship product that hasn't really changed all that much in 2 decades. Had great initial value, now is fodder.
Score - Blah
Bowman - Blah
Bowman Chrome - Blah
Elite - Decent, has a following every year and could be a little better.
SPX - Cool design, hard to get decent breaks out of it though.
Prestige - Kinda Blah
Topps Inception - Flashy, kinda new still, but still blah.
Topps Chrome - Of course, a fun break, still a kick in the nuts with most autos.
Ultimate - Booklet festival, booklets were not needed for this product, had the RPA's been a vertical card, it would've made more sense. Love all on card autos though!
Turkey Red - Horrid Sticker Dump
Limited - RPA took a huge step back, Vet content was nice.
Topps Magic - Typical, most of the appeal is in white whale hunting or SP's, more stickers.
Prizm - Better format, more color and still kind of a sticker dump.
Select - Awesome looking set, hard to justify buying it from boxes though.
Contenders - Some Watering down of the product with two rainbows per Rookie, still a flagship.
Triple Threads - Content improved, still a coin flip product (which it always has been).
SP Authentic - Awesome design, more overproduced RPA's of nobodies.
Rookies & Stars - Design was decent, execution of the RPA was blah.
Black - Seemed like the cards held up better in the pack out, still kind of an iffy product.
Certified - RPA's regressed, vet content was average.
Strata - QC improved, content didn't.
Topps Museum - One of the better products...if you bought the mini boxes with the autos.
Topps Prime - Typical Mid level product, gotta hit the right cards to justify the box prices.
Topps Supreme - Seemed to have improved a lot.
Crown Royale - RPA's were better than 2012, still not as good as 2011. Vet content was excellent.
Sterling - Typical Sterling, a lot of filler and not much killer. But it is shiny.
Topps - Can't break something this simple.
PlayBook - Improved, the Down & Dirty Patch Set was a revelation. Vet booklets were also excellent.
Topps Platinum - RPA Design was nice, collation wasn't necessarily great. Lots of scrubby base autos too.
Prominence - Meh...Base Rookies look really nice, RPA's were decent, seems like a weird product in general.
National Treasures - Love/Hate, I love the design and vet content. Lots of weird/obscure players in the checklist though. Had a bad box so my opinion is slanted a bit. But bad boxes do happen.
Absolute - Ruined IMO. Absolutely ruined. It went from an affordable box that could net some really nice vet/higher end rookies to being a deluxe version of R&S. 2010-2011 were two great years for Absolute, 2012 showed some signs of regression, 2013 was awful.
Fleer Retro - Lots of neat looking cards, shame most of them don't really have any value.
Spectra - Great looking product, I would've busted some if I had the opportunity.
Finest - Improved greatly after the 2012 SSSSSSSSSSP Debacle. One of my favorites from last year.
Quantum - Only bought singles, great looking cards, just seems like a homeless UD Product. It's Exquisite Jr. without any of the zazz.
Momentum - Didn't open any, wasn't impressed either.
5 Star - Improved a little bit, still a very meh product for the Price Point.
Exquisite - Regressed from 2012, even with a beefed up checklist. I stopped caring about 2013 guys in April, yet this had to come out after April...why?

Yeah im mostly down with the high end products, like NT or Museum adn Exquisite. Their are other sets I like but these 3 seem the nicest to me. On card autos, nice patchs, small checklist (except for NT, kinda a lot their).
But when my goal is to try adn get 1 of ALL of my players RCs, So I can have the ULTIMATE Supercollection of said player. I have to get all the others lil low end products also. Theirs just SOO MANY of them
Good luck to rest of you PC guys for 2013 and 2014 :)!

I know how you feel. Add about 10 more since I took this pic. And I just collect his autos!
