Anybody know of any? Specifically around the New London area?

Nope, you are SOL. The nearest is the RI baseball card store, but I never went there.

Check out Baseball Cards of RI in North Kingstown RI. Should be slightly less than a 1 hr drive from New London, it's a great shop.

Theres a good card show in the Stratford hotel the first sunday of every month. Good mix of vintage and prospectors, $2 entry, I'd say maybe 15-20 tables.

Otherwise just buy off eBay lol

First Base is in Wallingford...but nowhere near New London. There are not many stores in the state.

I think that place would be a wasted drive. I honestly don't know how places like that stay in business. They have a huge wall of wax that looks good from afar, unti you realize they just don't have anything good.

The best shop I've seen around is in Whitman, MA. He carries everything. Most shops don't carry anything past like bowman and regular Topps. He's got a nice mix of high and low end stuff and usually has cases available of the newer stuff. I think it's P and Ts? Somebody knows.

RI Baseball has all of the recent releases from any of the major manufacturers, as well as previous years for all sports. 2014 Allen & Ginter, Topps Baseball, 2014 Bowman Platinum & 2014 Tier One just to name a few recent baseball releases.

They also stock any of the new football releases from Panini and Upper Deck as well as most Hockey and Basketball products.

Don't know what you were looking at peapod when you went there but what you are saying can't be further from the truth!,

This would be the best place for new wax as far as where you are located. I'm sure they will have what you are looking for Kazmir114 :)!

I live in CT as well. The shops have dried up over the past 10 years or so.

There's one that's fairly active and has a good mix of newer products - Omni Comics & Cards in Wethersfield. Wax is a bit overpriced but if you buy a good amount they'll discount. Singles selection is poor and almost non-existent. The store is about 10% cards and 90% other stuff like memorabilia, clothing, etc. They run their operations right in the front of the store by the register/cards lol -- it's a bit odd. Bought wax here and the pulls were less than average!

The only other one I've been to recently (last month) was Ken's Cards & Collectibles in Bristol. It's a massive store and they have a TON of singles. Singles are moderately priced too, which is AMAZING compared to mostly any other store I've seen in my life lol. Great wax selection too. But was is overpriced. Their singles are displayed in glass showcase-counters throughout the store and yep, probably at least 50% of their autograph cards are faded. Not really sure how you can run a sportscard business and let this happen ... oh well! The owner wasn't there when I've been, just some guy who talked like he knew everything, but knew almost nothing. Very interesting character he was. Bought some wax and had pretty awful pulls...again!

Omni had basketball wax which is what I was after. Ken's didn't have ANY other than a few super-junk products (retail/etc.)

Both places had employees give me an odd look when I asked if they had any cases of wax ... lol ... I guess these stores survive on people buying individual packs!

Was an interesting trip to each, but I'll stick with eBay/Blowout for my singles/wax :D

I agree with this. Good selection.

To the OP, There is another place in Coventry, RI, 1 Stop Collectibles. I've talked to the owner, nice guy, decent selection and prices (I stopped in last year, so who knows what it's like now). He did say that about 90% of his business comes from Magic, but I think thats how it is for many of the hobby shops today.

There is also DJ's Cards in Oxford, MA, which is about an hour away up 395 (the shop is right off of 395). Owner is a really nice guy and he also has a good selection of current wax. He usually sells out of his new releases pretty quickly.

went looking for Omni in Wethersfield today, GONE. there is a small shop in North Haven; DJ's Comics & Cards. mostly comics but they have some wax. not a huge selection, but if you're local, maybe he'll work with you. friendly enough, a little pricey, but they do discount after multiple purchases (punch card). 1 Stop in Coventry, RI is pretty decent (haven't been in 2014) as was Baseball Cards of RI (but haven't been there for a coupla' years) if you are heading north check out Chris' Cards & Comics in Salem NH & Seabrook NH. LARGE selection of wax and singles in both stores. Happy Hunting !

I was just at Omni within the last month?

Are you sure you were in the right area? It's right off the Silas Deane Highway in a plaza. There's a big front to the building, but a small sign.

I find it nearly impossible that they closed shop in the last 2 weeks...

i'm not from the area, but they are not at 732 Silas Deane Highway, which is the address i found online. the woman there (antique/consignment shop) said there was a card shop there years earlier... so very possible they have moved. have you been a patron for very long ? guess i should have called !

Yeah it's definitely still in business! I'm not sure where that antique/consignment shop is, but here's the street view of Omni! (See small sign on big storefront!)

for sure ! this is diagonally across the street from where i was. searches on google for Omni come up with 2 different addresses; 681 (RIGHT) 732 (WRONG) Silas Deane Highway. thought it was odd that a new post would mention a defunct shop. AND i certainly apologize for questioning the veracity of your advice !
