Hey guys,

None of you know me, but I have been lurking on the forum for about four months and have read your posts with a lot of pleasure. (Sounds kinda creepy when you read it like that... Forget I said it...).

Anyway, I was curious to see what you guys think seeing I am considering a couple of things.. Last week I went to my local comic shop in Amsterdam and found a Batman Adventures laying in one of their boxes from the Batman Weekend. I bought the comic for €150 (about $200) and have to say that the comic looks pretty neat when I compare it to my other CGC graded 9.8 comics. I am by no means a professional grader but would say that it looks somewhere between a 9.0 and 9.6 seeing that the edges are all sharp, pages are white and staples are placed correct and are not corroded.

I have been thinking of sending this comic in to let it be professionally graded and slabbed. Though am having second thoughts wether I should send it to CGC or CBCS. Next to that I wonder if it would even be worth it to send this comic in to be graded seeing I already payed close to $200 for it. What do you guys think?

Sorry for the long post, just wondered how you guys think about this since I've been having this on my mind :)

Welcome to the CBJ boards.

If you were looking for a book to invested in, you picked a pretty good book to do it. I personally would get the book graded. Now I couldn't tell you which company to use to grade it but I would use one of the two that you mentioned.

"Pretty neat" is a whole new category for grading a book. Lol. If you want some ideas of what the book would grade in, you should post some pictures of the front, back and maybe some inside pages to give the other CBJ's an idea of what you're looking at.

^^ Ditto. High res scans of front/back and we can help give an idea of grade. Make sure all pages are intact, stapled and white.

Lol, realized just now that I called it 'pretty neat'.. Doh.. Thanks for the reply and welcome though!

I'm trying to connect my scanner at the moment but the thing has been busted for about a year, prolly time to get a new one. I read up on both the CGC and CBCS site and concluded that CGC has already made a name for themselves, though CBCS looks very promising even though they just opened their business two weeks ago.

The only thing that I'm afraid of is that the graded comic might not get as much recognition as a CBCS graded comic than when it would be graded by CGC (like PGX has almost no credibility anymore in today's market). On the other hand, CBCS offers free graders notes and other services that CGC doesn't. Do you guys think that there would be a great difference? Since this will also be my first time actually sending a comic in for grading.

WTTB!!!

All grading is designed to do is to protect it in it's current condition. Yes, it does have added monetary value once it's graded, but that's a secondary effect. For a collection item, I think CBCS is definitely worthy. It has a name (Steve Borrock), great pricing, graders notes and, most importantly, provides protection. It sounds like you have a great copy, so you get all of the above and a shot at financial gain if you decide to sell one day. Just my opinion though. Good luck and again - WTTB!

I know right!? You have no idea how surprised I was to find this gem in this condition. Made my heart skip a beat! Though I have to confess that I am giving this to my girlfriend as a birthday present. She's been collecting comics because of me and Harley is her favorite character, so I figured this must be her holy grail! Thanks for your reply, I've definitely made up my mind and will be sending this to CBCS to grade! Will update on what the eventual grade is :)

If we ever will consider to sell it you'll be the first on my mind! If you're still interested in it by then of course! Once again thanks for all your replies!
