Anyone else just see him flip someone off on national television?

It's at 2:28 in the 3rd quarter if you'd like to see for yourself.

will he ever learn?

or the better question is will all the Manziel defenders from the last few years finally admit that he's been a little #@#@#@#@#@#@ since winning the Heisman and that he needs to grow the F up?

Yup happens all the time on the field. Nobody is flashing the bird

BTW the unsportsmanlike had nothing to do with Manziel or heckling him so lets put that in its right context. It was for cursing a ref

there is a difference between talking smack and flipping off players/fans/whoever

You can say whatever you want on the field, if Manziel wants to say "F You" to a player, so be it, but you can't flip someone off to where the world can then see it

So that gives him the right to act like a child and make obscene gestures on national television in front of millions of people?

Logic.

I never Manziel's bird was unforgivable and ruining the game of football.

Perhaps I just want to see how Manziel handles what is one of the most ruthless places to play professional sports when he's letting an opposing bench get in his head.

I'm also not a "hater" in the sense that you're using it.

I understand what you're saying, but you have to realize the QB has to conduct things differently than everyone else. They are the face of the team and whether you like it or not, the NFL is a business. How would you like it if your model employee was making your company look bad?

Meh, if it was anyone else it would get 2 seconds of everyone's time and a fine from the NFL, then get buried. Instead we get to look forward to hearing about it for the next 3 weeks. It's a little concerning that people have more of a problem with this "ruining the game" then say Ray Rice only catching 2 games when he knocked out his fiance on tape. Never mind that we can't get 3 consecutive plays without a flag this preseason, or the fact that the game is turning into flag football. We rolled right out of Tebow and straight into Johnny Football...

they got the penalty because of the amount of calls by the refs. Watch the reply, the refs threw another flag and it was like the 10th of the game and they got pissed off. it made me laugh and the announcers laughed too. It was redic how many flags were thrown that game.

Gruden and company were even saying during the Lions/Raiders game that the thing that is ridiculous, is that the refs predetermined how many flags they would throw for each game. They already know how often they need to flag a play, so they're adhering to their quota. This is crap football and they need to cut it out. If the coaches are only allowed a certain number of challenges, the refs should be allowed only a certain amount of flags per game. Give them only 10 or 15 flags per game max and we'll see the crap stuff stop being called and the serious offenses will be left.

I'm a little tired of all the sanctimony from sports reporters in regards to this kid. ESPN is the ones that makes front page news out of this kind of behavior. ESPN loves controversy whether it's real or imagined. Sensationalism at it's finest. I really give a crap about ESPN analysts and their sense of moral superiority.

He flip off the other team that was no doubt trash talking him. It's immature behavior but it's not as big of a deal as people are making out of it. People love it. How boring would the league be if every player was classy 24/7?

I'm also getting tired of all the Johnny Football stuff. I get that he is THE guy to talk about right now, but it's getting a little old now.....sure he shouldn't be doing some of the stuff he is doing, but it's obviously getting covered 100 times more than it normally would if someone else did it.

Really started getting to be too much when him missing a 5 minute meeting, along with other rookies, became a top story on the website......it's just annoying now. Tebow, LeBron coverage actually never bothered me, but the Manziel stuff is really starting to get out of hand.

This is how I see it.

This quote I just read on NFL.COM says a lot:

"I was informed of it after the game and it's disappointing," Pettine said during the postgame news conference. "That's what we talk about, is being poised and being focused. You have to be able to maintain your poise. All football players, especially the quarterback, we have to keep our composure, so it's something that we'll obviously address."

I don't have a dog in this fight, not an A&M fan, Browns fan, or Manziel fan just sick of seeing every move he this kid makes scrutinized. Oh well, such is the game of football.

How does this deserve a thread? I would love to know how many pro football players have dropped a middle finger while on the field without complaints from the people here.

It doesn't and the comments in it are laughable.

This really isn't a big deal in my opinion. A handful of other players have done this in the past. It's sad that people get more worked up over Manziel Flipping the finger to the skins bench, then they do when players in NFL get DUI's. For the next week ESPN will be talking about this, whereas if someone had gotten a DUI they would have spent one three minute segment on it.

I'm a Lions fan, so I have no room to talk about crappy draft picks, playoffs, winning seasons, etc. I watched 0-16...and other seasons just as bad. That being said..does anyone really think this clown is going to be an impact player in the NFL?

He's immature. He's small. The Browns don't have a very good track record in drafting QB's... and opponents seem extremely excited to beat the living %&$# out of him.

Most of this was known before the draft. It seems even worse now.

Cleveland...do you think you've got the franchise QB? Or is he another in a long list of failures? Or is it too early to tell. What's your gut?

Yes! I remember that!

The only difference is that he was doing it to his own sidelines if I recall correctly... might have been at Clay Matthews.

That said, I don't care that JFF flipped the bird to someone. This is football and they are all big boys.

Heat of the moment, things happen. It isn't like he tried to purposefully injury someone or anything like that.

It's way too early to tell. It's been 2 preseason games.

Brandon Weeden and Colt McCoy were two of the best preseason QB's when they were out there.

It's going to be a long process - longer than some might hope - but it's way too early do make a judgement on his potential success.

I also remember the Hawk incident. It was all joking but i think AJ got fined a good 10k or so.

****breaking news****

Eye Witness's report, johnny Manziel was spotted committing a misdemeanor crime early Tuesday morning!

he was seen Jaywalking on his way to practice

His crime spree continued later on when TMZ reporter witnessed this troubled young man roll a stop sign.

To cap it off, Johnny let out a large fart on the practice field. Will the justice system follow up and issue a citation for polluting public air? We will continue with live coverage on these breaking stories!

Trust me, we still feel this way. Johnny will be fine. The entire team looks like garbage right now trying to work out the kinks of a completely new offense/defense, and Pettine is dragging his feet on this whole QB thing, which should have been decided already. You can thank Andrew Luck and RG3 that we now expect rookie QBs to come in and contend for Super Bowls. People forget what Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers had to do to become great. This time will pass, and we'll see what he's really about on the field a year or two from now.

Being 4th on the depth chart behind a franchise quarterback would be beneficial to Manziel. This isn't meant to be a knock on Brady's road to greatness. It is just another example of a qb who benefited from sitting, learning and developing.

Browns players have been quoted as saying Johnny is one of the hardest working rookies they have ever played with. His locker room personality is nothing like what the camera captures in the offseason. Flipping the bird while having fun with the Redskins bench is no big deal. Those guys say far worse at the bottom of the pile. As long as Johnny keeps working hard, and when it starts to show on the field, the outside stuff won't matter anymore.

Is there a source for the player comments? The only ones I heard were along the lines of "he comes to meetings and pays attention", nothing out of the ordinary and something that any quarterback should be doing.

I live in Cleveland so I've got 4 weeks of player and coach interviews, and local radio talk mashed into my head right now. I couldn't even tell you what day or time. I just remember the segment being whether or not Johnny's partying has impacted his learning curve and that's when players were speaking up. They specifically said that he is NOT ordinary, in the sense that he has done far more studying and prep than the average rookie in his position.

P.S. And Mike Pettine has been quoted several times saying that Johnny is ahead of schedule from where Pettine thought he would be in his learning.

I'll add this....

Only in football do rookies get all the pressure to be stars from day 1. If Andrew Wiggins struggles through the first 2 pre-season Timberwolves games, he wouldn't be called a bust because of it. If Kris Bryant goes 0 for 8 in his first two Cubs games, he wouldn't be called a bust because of it. Only in the NFL do players get 4 weeks to prove themselves before the sky starts to fall. This is what destroys careers.
