82 NFL players were polled anonymously which team they would consider is the least desirable to play for. The "winner"? The Oakland Raiders.
23% of the players answered the Raiders
Bills 19%
Browns 16%
Jacksonville 9%
Packers 6%

Not surprising.
Winning breeds more winning - and guys want to win. If any of those teams consistently made the playoffs then the votes would change.
I'd be curious, just as an Ohio guy, where the Bengals ranked compared to the Browns - because they've climbed the ladder I'm sure by actually winning games - and good for them.
Green Bay just gets killed by the fact that it's like negative a billion degrees all the time.

Have you ever been to Green Bay?
It's not just small for NFL standards. It's small compared to any standard.
Players like tradition, and winning (as I noted), but they tend to want some sort of "City" as well - you're asking guys to play in cold weather and live in a town with 100,000 people.
Hell Buffalo is like 3X the size of GB if you don't even count the Niagara region.

I guess that explains why Oakland is leading. You work so hard to get out of the ghetto, only to go back? That or it's because their playoff drought is about to hit puberty.

Wow, I've never really thought about the city of Green Bay and its location since I've never been to Wisconsin...
So do the players live in Milwaukee and make the two hour drive to the games AND practices or something? Or do they have a little condo in the town...
Do most of the fans make a similar drive since the city is only 100,000?
What an odd place for a professional team to be located.

Ouch! But completely understandable. And another reason why the Raiders and Browns have had to overspend previously to get FA's to come and play for the team.

I had a buddy that played for the Packers for a couple years - and he said it was just out of this world how crazy it was to live there during the season - and this was a small town guy.
Green Bay getting 6% of the votes has nothing to do with the team and everything to do with the location.
Places like Ohio State, Texas, or Arizona State are 50-60% the size of Green Bay. Think about that. That's just student population. Ohio Stadium alone can hold the entire population of Green Bay. Ohio State's campus becomes 2-3 times the size of Green Bay every Saturday with tailgating if you count the people outside the stadium just partying.
That's crazy talk.
Not to mention, and while lots of places are "cold weather", Green Bay has massive amounts of snow a good bit of the time - and with 100K people - they hardly plow it like Cleveland, Chicago, Minneapolis etc...

People see Green Bay population and think small. There are a lot of "suburbs" or smaller towns all connected. Then the fox cities is about 30 min away. Appleton, Neenah, Menasha, Kaukauna, Kimberly, Little Chute. Small towns all blended right together like on larger city. I live in Appleton and love it. Small town feel but we have everything you want. Plenty to do. College ave has a nice night life and plenty of festivals. All these together, its not much smaller than your average big city market. Probably half the crime too.

Al Davis was watching TV one day when he saw some Palestinian kid tossing large rocks at an Israeli tank from a large distance. Intrigued by the kids arm strength, he sent scouts over to evaluate the kid and eventually signed him to a contract to QB the Raiders. After winning his first 8 games he got a call from his Mother, "Son, you have to come home. Your sister was gang raped, you father beheaded, and our neighbors house was blown up." After that she breathed a long sigh, "Why did you make us move to Oakland?"

It's not worth a big discussion - but I seriously doubt this
If we're adding up things that are a 30 minute drive then there are going to be a hell of a lot of big cities that aren't really - and the GB range is still going to be the same in comparison
Go back to Buffalo - if you count the "Niagara/Buffalo/Cattaraugas" region then you're talking 1.2 million people - and no one is going to count Buffalo as a "big market city"

Reading this, it just feels like you've never been to a big city. And so your pieces of Wisconsin might feel big to you...but compared to real "cities" they're nothing.
I checked out your "college ave" on google street view...took a little virtual walk...and it definitely seems nice but I can think of like 10 cute little streets like that with good retail/nice restaurants/good night life in Cincinnati proper alone. Not talking suburbs 30 minutes away...I'm talking downtown or neighborhoods just outside. And Cincinnati is nothing compared to your real big cities.
Green Bay is just not a big city. I mean look at this list of cities by population - List of United States cities by population - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population)
Cincinnati ranks 65th...Green Bay is 272nd behind Wichita Falls, Centennial Colorado, and Lowell Massachusetts (which does not feel that big at all to me as a former Masshat).
It's great you love your city/suburbs of Wisconsin...that's awesome...but a bunch of cute suburbs with some nightlife around a 100,000 population does not = city.

That's a little strong response.
I like in Wichita, Kansas, and we are 3-4 times the size of Green Bay (Wichita is the biggest city in Kansas for what that is worth), and we are still pretty much just a small town with almost no market.
Wichita, again, multiple times bigger then Green Bay, is a blimp on the radar compared to Buffalo, which as noted is not considered a big market.

It's not the stadium or the atmosphere of games that is the problem. It's that young men with millions of dollars in the bank don't want to spend the prime of their life in a small, family oriented town up in Wisconsin. It might be a nice place to grow old or to raise a child, but it is far from ideal for an NFL athlete.

Milwaukee which has no pro football team...and Cleveland which was #2 player vote for place they'd least like to play. So that's not saying much.

We're talking about the players here, not the fans. If you lived in Foxborough during football season you'd have Boston to escape to during the week, not to mention other close dece cities like Providence.
If you live in Green Bay during football season...pickins are a little more slim.

GB is what players need. No chance to go out and do something stupid to get in trouble with the law and the NFL. They are being paid millions of dollars to play a game focus on that. In the off-season if they want to go and party wherever that's fine but act like a pro during the season.

You must have never been to detroit or michigan.
That whole metro detroit area has a pretty lively night life/bar scene. Most players can live in ferndale, birmingham, royal oak, bloomfield hills, novi, etc and only have a 30 minute drive to get to the stadium. As bad as detroit is portrayed, its only certain parts you dont go to (as with any city).

I'll also add, on that neighborhoodscout site that people like to share sometimes here, Chicago is an 8 (out of 100, 0 is terrifying, 100 is safe as heck).
Green Bay is a 21.
That's safer...but still not crazy safe. You have a 1 in 206 chance of being a victim of violent crime in Green Bay. In Chicago it's 1 in 99...which doubles your chances sure...but it's not like Green Bay is this perfect crime free zone.

With regards to GB, I think people don't enjoy playing there due to weather and because everyone in town would recognize you. Most guys probably want to live within a half hour of the stadium, so in a small town, you are a celebrity and under a microscope.
In addition to that, all these guys who like the night-life and want to be seen with celebrities and attend other sporting events probably don't have much to choose from in Green Bay.

Surprising to me that you even made this association with this thread. With the money Washington over pays for middling or aged talent I'd assume people would want to play there just for that. Even though the team name is racist.
But if people did select Washington as a place they wouldn't want to play I'm sure it would have to do with nearly a decade without a single playoff win. 2006-2013. Or the fact they finished dead last in their division 6 out of those 8 years (once they finished 3rd). Just sayin.
