I've got a possible job in Tyler, Texas, which is a suburb of Dallas.
I haven't been able to learn much about the town so far, does anyone here live there or know of the area? Housing prices seem reasonable from what I can see on Zillow.

Tyler is not a suburb of Dallas.

Aren't Dallas and Tyler like 2 hours apart? That'd be like Columbus being a suburb of Cleveland.

Distance aside, it is a decent place. If you are looking for city life, not really for you. But if you are looking for a nice quiet place where you don't have to leave town to go to a best buy or something, it will work. Just have to remember it is an old money town.

I suppose years of commuting to work in NYC from Allentown made me think that the 1.5 hour commute into Dallas isn't so bad.

If you will be working in Dallas, look into Plano or McKinney. In fact McKinney was rated by Money magazine to be the best place to live in the country recently.

I loved living in the metro area of Dallas Tx
most of the time i was up in the denton county area (lewisville)
still close to the city and freeways but far enough to still have some county feel and have a lot of space for the house

I survived living in Kensington, I'm pretty sure this town isn't going to be a problem.

I was acually suprised when i moved from TX to AZ these guys are way more serious on firearms out there then anywhere in Texas just in my street we could stage a small war with guns to spare

I agree .. my first taste of Tucson coming from California.. the wife and I are standing in line at mcdonalds and a guy comes walking in with a white tshirt and 2 shotguns strapped to his back.. I thought oh boy things are about to get real... but nope its just the norm in Arizona..100% legal to carry around as many guns as you want in the wide open.

I think it hit me the first time i saw a firearm in a bank by a guy going about his Busness. way strange even for me, but on the side note no one dares breaking in a house on my street 1 tired earlier this year and did not make it back out the entry way

I live in Tyler....and south of Dallas. During the week I live and work in Tyler and on Friday I drive to Waxahachie (hour and a half drive) which is just south of Dallas and where I am originally from. I have lived in a lot of different places and in my opinion Tyler is the nicest I have lived in. Restaurants, parks, shopping, you name it. Population wise (100,000+) it is a large city but it still has a small town feel to it. Very spread out in all directions. Not much negative can be said about it...for me at least.
Feel free to PM me with any questions you might have.

I lived in Mt. Pleasant for a few years and would travel to Tyler and Longview to visit family. I thoroughly enjoyed Tyler. It was a nice little city.

Funny thing about Tyler. Despite it being in tge heart of the bible belt, the first time i bought cards in Tyler was from a "wiccan" shop. Nice being able to buy some cards and comics and still be able to get your spell components all in one stop.

My sister went to the JC there. She enjoyed her time there. It's East Texas, so it's going to be pretty "country".

But they are only a few centimeters apart from each other on a map. That's pretty close if you ask me :coffee:

Exactly. Texas is not worth moving to no matter how awesome the job is.

Not sure if serious or not but the family and I have been very happy for our ten years here. I don't regret it at all.

Some people just can't handle Texas, I've found.

Texas is okay in my book. I was just messing with the artist formerly known as KMD for his lack of being able stick with what he posted in the first place.

I will say, that if money was no object, I could come up with 100 other places I would rather live. However, the fact is that money is an object and the quality of life here per dollar is far above anywhere else I've ever lived. I will never be a rah rah Texas guy but I don't plan on ever leaving either.

If he moves to Texas, does he still plan on eating COMC's lunch? It's still sitting there.
