This is what happens when immature kids with physical talents get too much money too quickly and their brains skip instrumental development processes as a result of the glamorous life of luxury...
Can be seen a lot in the sports world, especially basketball...

Is it the caption that has people upset or that it is a selfie? Or combo?
I don't mind him taking a picture, though I don't know why he would want to take a selfie there.
I really don't get selfies anyway.

Attention whoring.
Younger people simply can't enjoy things these days by just looking at them and/or experiencing them. They have to take pictures/videos and share with all of their friends to get "likes" and then Tweet out to people who don't care. It's a self-absorbed, digital world we live in these days. I say younger people like I'm not one, but it's sad to see everyone on their phones texting/browsing 24-7. Then you end up with brain-dead, bozo situations like Danny Green put himself in, here.
Take some immature chump who has too much money from playing a sport, throw him in all of these luxurious situations and the lack of brain power shines through. He likely knows jack about the Holocaust, or Germany, or anything. He's just a spoiled, immature fool who has been lucky enough to get put into situations due to his "job".
Sorry for the rant. I'm not even this mad about this instance so much, but rather the fact that things like this happen a million times a day all over the world!

I get what you are saying, but look at it this way, at least he is trying to learn about the Holocaust. A lot of people with his type of money wouldn't even think about learning about the history.

You're giving him too much credit.
Likely an all-expenses paid flight to a foreign country to play a game and get paid for it?
If he wanted to learn about it, he'd post a picture of himself reading a book on the Holocaust. And who's to say it was even his idea ... could have been a PR move that he ultimately screwed up anyways...
He's a child with lots of money in a place he doesn't understand and wants to get Instagram "likes" ... don't read into it more than it is.

Recent articles have proven that "graduating" from UNC doesn't mean much. They basically push all their athletes through. Dude is from Long Island which has more Jews per capita than almost anywhere and played from the Long Island Lightning which is a lot of jewish kids from long island. He even does camps back there, I wonder if that will change now. :/

To me it's an issue of the ''sacred'' being put aside.
There are reasons for memorials being built, one of which being the opportunity to reflect on a particular event (often a sad and regrettable one) and/or as a way to remember those impacted by it.
The fact that he's having ''fun'' and flaunting it there can be perceived by many as disrespectful.
Whether it is or not is up for debate. While I was there, there were all kind of people doing things that could be viewed the same, the point being that him posting it publicly was bound to lead to a public reaction (what goes out must come back).

I bet millions of people have taken pics at that memorial and nothing was ever said about it, but because he's with the NBA and spurs all the sudden it becomes a social issue, this is bad as the stuff they do with the NFL, like the NFL is now responsible for every cause across america just because they are the NFL and have alot of popularity.
when people go to other countries and historical places they take pictures, If I went tommorrow i'd probably take a pic of myself at it, when schools go they take a pic at it? this story is so ridiculous. the only way this would be even remotely wrong is if he was a german or a descendant of someone in hitlers army (something to that effect).
they also don't really teach much about the holocaust in school, he's 27 and for obvious reasons it wouldn't have much direct impact with him. it's gotten to the point where people expect other people to live like robots and adhear to all these crazy made up rules, it's a young guy visiting a place taking a pic, nothing more to it.

I don't think anyone's saying he, or anyone else, shouldn't be able to take pictures there (or at any memorial). However, I can see why some people might think a "selfie" is in bad taste. I can also see why some people might consider the comment he made with the picture to be a little off. Something along the lines of 'Paying my respects at the Holocaust Museum... etc.' might have been better.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think any less of him because of this, or even really care, but it's not personally something I would have done or encourage anyone else to do.

i'd rather someone be themselves rather than put on some fake front for the public, it's getting to a point where you don't even have a real representation of an athlete because they have to carry on with this BS........it's getting to a point where public figures don't even have everyday ordinary free speech because they get attacked for taking a picture, there was no disrespect by the athlete, it's just wrong to attack him like that, I doubt anyone is perfect in this world.

I think the same would apply to anyone in that situation. Now, would you or I get the same sort of response if it was our Twitter feed? Of course not. But that's just the way it is when you have some form of celebrity status (for what it's worth, I do recall a "regular" person getting a bit of backlash not all that long ago for a similar "selfie" taken at Auschwitz).
The concept of free speech doesn't protect you from people disagreeing with what you say.

Maybe, just maybe you would understand if you were Jewish and had relatives killed during the Holocaust.
We have all had relatives die in the World Wars, Holocaust, Crusades, Civil Wars, Famine and Disease. The sensitivity and entitlement has grown old. I'm certain photographs have been taken at places that memorialize those. Life is death.
Where is the disgrace when someone badmouths someone from the Arab world? This photograph doesn't even badmouth anyone. Green laughs at himself for a ridiculous cultural phenomenon.

You clearly don't get it if you are comparing the Holocaust to World Wars, the Crusades, Civil Wars, famine and disease. The sensitivity has grown old? How else do we prevent history from repeating itself?

You should personally thank Green. He brought global attention to an atrocity of the past. Shouldn't you be happy? Wouldn't silence be the real problem?
I always pride myself in sticking up for the little guy, but I don't see this as one of those situations. I've grown tired of certain groups always complaining. I've traveled and lived in many places. I've seen the good and the bad. Why do some work to reach their goals and dreams while others complain and blame others?

Danny Green neither said nor did anything anti-semitic. Disrespectful, sure, but that is a totally different animal.
As a Jew i agree with this. Isn't Green the one who is like pretty open and worldly and likes animals and traveling and sunshine and rainbows? I feel like he shoulda known better here but I wouldn't label him anti-Semitic, oh and btw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lqNCx8tOes
Yea I mean the guy just made a really dumb move here, nothing to dispute... reminds me of when Bieber wondered if Anne Frank woulda been a Belieber:/:mad::(

That's a valid point, but being a bigot doesn't solve anything. I've traveled and lived all across the world, just like you. I agree that there is plenty of other "bad" on this planet, but it's apathy that leads to the silence.

Taking a selfie at a Holocaust memorial - possibly a poor decision...I would think a photo of the memorial itself would have been sufficient. I don't see the intentional disrespect; I just think he's a part of a bigger problem, which is the lack of education that our kids are getting these days, but that's another issue.
Or maybe it's the real issue here. I was taught absolutely nothing about the Holocaust in high school.
