I like Demario Davis and David Amerson

Von Miller. Everyone talks about JJ Watt, I think Miller can do everything Watt does, but he doesn't get nearly the recognition.

As far as I can tell Miller gets a bunch of recognition. One of the best players in the league.
Calais Campbell's invisibility in the mainstream media is dumbfounding to me. He's a fantastic player.

I gotta go Vontae Davis. Surprise pick but he plays tough. Makes it hard for wide outs to get anything

I mean Miller gets recognition in the media because he plays for a team with Peyton Manning on it. People talk about Watt like he is the greatest defensive player in the league. Put up Von's stats against JJ's and you see just about the same player (outside of passes defended, which Miller does pretty well).

It is crazy to think these guys were in the same draft.

He also gets recognition for failing a drug test. Don't forget Aldon Smith came in that same draft.

Between all three of them, the stats are close. JJ has more blocked kick and TFL. Von has more sacks. All three of them have 1 INT each.

CubKings, just imagine how good Smith is going to be once he starts playing with a lead more often.

Harrison Smith is definitely underrated.

Agree with this. Imagine if he had a consistent pass rush, and an offense that force opposing teams to play catch up.

I would say AJ Hawk. He's not an exciting playmaker...but he's reliable and solid.

Got to agree with Campbell. The guy gets no love what at all.

Also agree with Smith. Very good young safety.

gotta go with Willie Young, not a huge high end signing but he is playing very well.

Thomas Davis

this. the difference with him healthy and playing vs. him not active is massive.

i would venture to say any run-stuffing DL is underrated. They often have to stand their ground against double-teams all day so LBs can make the plays. A solid DL may never have high tackle and sack totals, but it doesn't make them any less valuable.

Young is one of the few bright spots for the Chicago D. He is the type of guy who knows his role, and makes very few mistakes. I loved the signing when it happened, and I hope he gets extended next year at some time.

He is playing better than Houston anyway who looks like he is getting very overpaid at the moment.

No he can't and hasn't done what jj watt does, von miller gets sacks...and that's about it. Good player but not nearly as multi dimensional

I am partial but no one respects Ryan Kerrigan like they should. The man is a beast, always has a high motor and makes plays. Scored a TD in every season he has been in the league. 3rd season in the league and now in 8th place for sack leader. He is awesome

Here are some per game stats on the two players:

Player QB Hurries Run Stuffs Sacks QB Hits Pass Def TFL

JJ Watt .49 .89 .75 2.29 .6 1.49
Von Miller .65 .61 .93 1.5 .17 1.43

Miller is getting very similar production as a LB to Watt as a DE. That is impressive. The only thing he is really not in the same league with Watt in is passes defended, and that is because Miller goes into coverage and doesn't play at the LOS as much.

Are you seriously trying to compare a sam backer's stats to a 5 technique's? Lol...

We get it, you like Miller, but just because he isn't mentioned in the same breath as the best defensive player in the league doesn't mean he's underrated. Miller is widely regarded as one of, if not the best OLB in the league.

Dude, that's the point. Jj watt plays a variety INSIDE positions, name one player, just one player that plays a 3-4 5gap all the way to zero gap and gets that kind of production....carrying on with my day...a defensive end that makes plays occurs much more frequently than a down lineman specifically in this schematic of defense.

I just think it is crazy how people think that JJ is some god, and Von Miller plays just as well and gets no respect by comparison. I also mentioned that I realize that they play different positions, and different roles, but they are both just as impactful in games.

These names come to mind for me (trying to not focus on guys who are regulars at the Pro Bowl each year):

Daryl Smith
Phil Taylor
Sam Shields
Kyle Williams
Daryl Washington (I'm assuming suspended players count)
Calais Campbell (top 10 defensive player in NFL IMO)
Darius Slay

I'm sure there's many more but I can't be bothered thinking anymore.

If I were to include perennial pro bowlers etc, the first name that would come to mind for me would be Cameron Wake, unquestionably the best 4-3 LDE in the league IMO. I still think he's considerably underrated.

JJ Watt is a god, as far as football is concerned.
There isn't a bigger gap between one guy and the other players at his position than Watt and the other DEs.
