While the Marlins guy should be wearing Royal, he is able to afford to sit back there so he could wear whatever he wanted to. Those tickets are not cheap. Distracting, yes, but he's probably a huge fan of baseball and just loves watching the sport, no matter the team

Marlins Man is the nickname of Laurence Leavy, an American attorney from North Miami Beach, Florida who, after 2012, gained notoriety for his frequent appearances at major sporting events while wearing orange Miami Marlins apparel.
I'm curious if he has a backer or backers now that he is so visible behind home plate. If not.... he is paying nicely for those seats.

He took a friend of mine to a Nats game earlier in the season. Super nice guy. Died hard Marlins fan from day 1. As previously mentioned, owns a law firm and lots of Florida real estate. Why do either of you care which games he goes to or what he wears when he goes?
As already mentioned, he donates to a lot of different organizations, takes people to games who wouldn't normally get to go, and when two KC firefighters were killed in a fire during the playoffs, he donated $10k to each of the families.
But none of that matters if he wears an orange shirt.

He doesn't just go to baseball games he also goes to football and basketball games as well and still wears his jersey. The guy just likes enjoying his time. I saw on Facebook he sent this WNBA players mom and dad to the finals to see their daughter play at no cost. He just likes interacting with other people and enjoying life

Bingo! And think about the amount of money for hotels, flights, food, etc. for everywhere he goes. Just take that money and buy a World Series package. I've never understood why he does it for all the CS series.
The thing is though, you can still be the nicest person in the world and do all of the things he does without wearing that stupid ass jersey.
He is an attention whore.
I feel sorry for both of you. It must really suck to go through life so negative and jaded.

I don't think that there is a lot of butthurt at all. I think people are just saying that you can do all of that good, and maintain a low profile. By dressing how he does, it appears as if he is trying to draw attention to himself, and that may cause some people to form a negative opinion. For instance, If I wore a shirt with a picture of a penis on it to work, do you think my patients would have the same impression of me, when really I am the same person?

That is a god awful analogy. He's a Marlins baseball fan, so he wears a Marlins jersey to baseball games. Unless you are a penis fan, that's not nearly the same thing.
He could do the same things without wearing his jersey, but why should he have to?

You completely missed my point. It is about impressions that people form based on appearance. Last time I checked, he could wear a black or white Marlins jersey and be less conspicuous.

Shirt with a penis on it ≠ Orange Marlins jersey
Maybe if the people you work with typically wear black suits, and you wear an orange suit. That'd be a better analogy.

No, I got your point, but it still makes no sense. He doesn't have to answer for wearing a baseball jersey to a baseball game to anyone. It's not offensive, or at least it shouldn't be.
I don't know what kind of office you work at, but I'm guessing wearing a penis shirt would not be a normal thing and might generate some HR conversations.

I agree that if I enjoy it, then who cares, but it goes back to the point that some people may be put off by it, especially if it's the first time that they see me. That's all I am saying, and that is first impressions mean a lot. Especially when it's appearance, and that is all you have to go by. Many times this leads to the wrong impression.

I kid of understand your reasoning but I think when it comes to something as casual as a baseball game, people shouldn't be off put by anything that goes on there. Where talking about a public place where people get trashed and cuss out opposing teammates. If a guy wearing his teams jersey gets someone's feathers ruffled, then some things wrong with them.

Why are you comparing work attire to a casual fan experience? And so what if he wants publicity? Maybe that is his goal, maybe it isn't. He seems like a good person, and he reps his terrible team. He also has the coin to do what many can't, so maybe that's why people are hating?

Well, you guys can say what you want, but I still stand by my post.
Maybe agreeing to the 'attention whore' part of gonzagacubs post is where you guys thought I was being overly-critical, but he is definitely doing it for attention.
There's no other reason to go to an opposing teams stadium, where your team isn't even playing, and wear an obnoxious colored jersey where you know you are going to be on TV 95% of the time.
Call me crazy, but that is someone seeking attention.
And to clarify, just because I don't agree with most of you on this guy, it doesn't mean there is something wrong, negative, or jaded with me. Far from it.

You can be a Marlins fan . You can be a baseball fan . You can spend all of your money on tickets behind home plate for every single game . I have no issues with any of this . I dislike the bright orange jersey he wears everywhere . It's a costume which makes him a character . At this point he could sell advertisement space on that God awful jersey . Or McDonalds should just buy a seat behind home plate for every game , right next to Marlins man , and sit Ronald McDonald there as advertisement .
If I had money , and could afford to do what he does , I would . But I would change my clothes and dress normally . That's all . I like the guy . He does not anger me . It's awesome . But he sticks out like a sore thumb at some major sporting events .
He will probably have an ESPN 30/30 one day .

Good for him to rep his favorite team and wear a bright jersey. I didn't know much about him, but I just read about how he now brings a few fans with him to every game and then just asks that they pay it forward. Good for him. I actually met Marlin Man after the 2015 All-Star game in Cincinnati at the player hotel. He was staying there too. He was hilarious to talk to and had great stories about things. He was working on picking up a "lady" which I think was a "pay to play" type of woman. Regardless, he took pictures with us, and said to reach out if we ever wanted tickets. He's basically a retired guy, who has more money than he knows what to do with.
