I actually think he will make more back
BRADY patch should make around $100
Bridgewater could actually bring the most depending on how many people are wanting to do the set and it's a Rookie card too so those sell for more then the regular base so possibly around $300
The Barry Sanders could be around $250-$350
So just those 3 could bring in around $700 maybe then you add the others together (Bama fans will go after the AJ) this could be closer to even then most people think.....

This box is a loser 100% of the time -
No way to sugar coat that -
What solid names are there other than Brady and Sanders?? Bridgewater may sell OK and Cooks will sell but other than that the rest is trash that goes for peanuts.

I agree with you Dobber, his only hope on maximizing return would have been to list those last night for 24 hour auctions and hope for the best.
If someone pays $300 for that Bridgewater, they need their head examined.

The base cards out of 20 may surprise, especially if not much of this stuff makes it to the secondary market..the RCs especially. Teddy is a good one..nice Sanders and Brady for your collection..Cooks is decent too.
The cards are gorgeous, and who knows what the value will be 4-5 years down the road, with this being an inaugural release...of course, if you bought it today with the idea of selling this weekend, best of luck to you, I don't envision this being a profitable venture for rip/flip guys...

Brady will 100 percent bring over 150 esp first one bRidgewater around 200 for first one Barry about the same maybe 250 mad tannehill and mccarron will sell better than you may think. He is 100 percent going to lose money but prob around 350-400

The only part disappointing to me is that of the nine hits, three are rookies. Flawless needs to be more vets and legends and less rookies IMO, I wouldn't want more than one rookie in a box of this
But good break man, some sneaky good cards in there I think that Barry is gorgeous and the Tarkenton is just classic

I agree with this 100%. Nice cards and even though the risk is high I'd rather open up a box of this than say a case of Playbook. If you're selling the cards good luck with your sales, if keeping them, great hits which will look great in your collection for sure.

Lately, football products have a shelf life equal to or less than an open can of beer. Now, High end has always been a risk, but its different when it costs this much. A 500 dollar gamble pales in comparison to a 1350 gamble, where you can lose more than 500 a box!

Yeah, I saw this as a pretty decent break. The Sanders is BANANAS. His high end patch autos go for $$$$$$$$. I wouldn't take less than $500 for it.
The Bridgewater is probably $200-250
The Brady is $100-$150
The rest of the stuff probably gets about $200.
Is it a $$ winner? No....but it's a GREAT box!

to me that brady is more than a $100 card......... i'ono....I definately wouldn't auction the stuff, bin/bo for 3 days and then if they don't sell relist for 30 days. people are so set on auctions these cards are a little different than that, these will have buyers who really want to obtain the cards badly as opposed to people who are just buying to buy/flip etc. little different scenario to me. I think you did pretty good.

This just proves to me even more how crappy the resale value of football is. That Brady patch that everyone says is a $100- $150 patch. A Lebron patch like that would sell for $500-$800. I'm not saying Brady is Lebron of football but for one of the biggest names in the set to sell for less than a quarter of basketball is crazy.

I dunno, i opened a case of Prizm and got about 100 back so a loss of 600. That was more painful. I would rather open a box of flawless for around 1100-1200. At least it is better value.

10-31-2014, 09:44 AM
It seems to me like it's the common outcome of most breaks. You got a couple decent cards, but no where near the investment amount. The problem is people expect every box to be a winner and that's just not logical. If every single box had all star autos and no filler crap imagine what the value of cards would be. Look at the MMA card market for evidence of what happens when the market becomes over saturated with too many star autos. It's practically dead and autos of long reigning champions can be had for 20 spots.

I love these high dollar breaks. After the initial hype you can pick up some nice cards at decent prices. I would rather buy a 1300 card I would want than take the chance and open this. High risk investment. At 130 a hit I doubt he makes his money back. Regardless you hit some nice cards good luck with whatever you do with them

Thank you! If the people complaining about others commenting on ROI would read the original post maybe they would understand.
I see about $900 - $1000 if sold now. Personally if you broke this to resell I would unload the Veteran cards and the Bridgewater and Cooks right away (excluding the Gordon). Then hold the Murray and McCarron. You won't get top dollar for them now. I would also hold the Gordon until he comes back in a few weeks.

From someone who opens way too much:
Most comical thing about this thread is how many times the word investment has been used either directly or via ROI. That has to be one of the top 10% of all boxes that will come out of this, but like most products its a loser.
Investment + Ripping Wax = Oxymoron.
It's just about the entertainment. Look at it any other way and you are crazy with the exception of about 2 products a year (and not all years).

Basketball has the international (Asia) market to help the prices go higher. Same goes with Hockey (Europe/Canada). Football doesn't have that luxury, unfortunately, which means less collectors and in turn, less $ value.
That box wasn't terrible; as others have said, the Barry, Brady, and Bridgewater have good value. I think those three can fetch somewhere around $700-800 together. Not bad at all. I can only imagine what people will say when worse breaks start popping up. I'll be opening a box tomorrow (splitting with a buddy) at the LCS and I wouldn't be disappointed with this.

I agree - this was a nice box. Not great for flippers, but all you need are some collectors to start doing to set to see cards take off.

So then is the SRP the problem? I just feel like without a 1/1 or huge patch or something this should be at least breaking even. Just think Panini priced the football product based on basketballs success.

I guess I'm confused. I'm not a big high end guy but I see nice lol end brady patches selling for close to 100 all the time. How is a card that beautiful from a 1300 dollar product a 100 dollar card? Without seeing ebay my first guess would have been 300-400.
So then is the SRP the problem? I just feel like without a 1/1 or huge patch or something this should be at least breaking even. Just think Panini priced the football product based on basketballs success.
I don't think that Panini priced this at what Blowout & Dave and Adam's is selling it for. I just know that cost to hobby shops from distributors were between $800 - $850. I think they probably went out and bought a lot of hoping to get a monopoly on the supply. The SRP was probably supposed to be $1k.

That's what I think. I heard factory cost is like $800? Pretty big markup if that's true. If SRP was around $900-1000, it would be great. But the thing is, it's a limited release, Panini knows people will buy it, and it may be the retailers pricing it where it's at. I'm sure if preorders were slow (which wouldn't be expected for the inaugural ultra high-end football release) then presale prices would've dipped slightly.
I guess I'm confused. I'm not a big high end guy but I see nice lol end brady patches selling for close to 100 all the time. How is a card that beautiful from a 1300 dollar product a 100 dollar card? Without seeing ebay my first guess would have been 300-400.
It's hard to gauge that right now. Patches don't generally sell well with football which is why a lot of people, including myself, think the price should be lower. As mentioned somewhere above, a LeBron, Durant, etc. patch in basketball pays for roughly 1/3 of the box on it's own. A patch of a decent player will probably get $100-200. People may pay more that expected for these football patches, but I just don't think it's likely to even sniff where basketball was.

Exactly. Stated this in another thread. The direct factory cost from Panini was $650ish. From distributors it was $800. Blowout/D&A did the rest so blame them.
Then again, they have multi-millions and pallets of absolute garbage Panini 2014 products losing them thousands a day.
Cards looks great. Football high end resale isn't on the same plane as Basketball high end resale.
First ones listed will get some premium but watch the cliff dive singles take.
Oh yeah boys and girls with ebay's new return policy singles first single sellers may get hit with big glasses of buyer's remorse.

Wow. SO from the 4 pages of this thread I've read and the approximate average values guessed...99.9% of people will end up taking a bath..IF that's the case.
I say this because It is hard to think of a lone box of this product that could be ANY better than this. That Brady Patch, The Bridgewater Diamond, The beautiful Rookie RPA...and, of course, one of the most beautiful Barry Sanders cards EVER made.
I don't see how one does better on a lone box.
COngrats OP, I think you absolutely CRUSHED the odds. If you do, in fact, take a bath from this break...that means the product should NEVER had come close to being priced where it is. Be patient with that Sanders. There are several Sanders high end collectors that would fight to the damn near death for that thing. Same with the Brady. I believe you will be ok. Just be patient. Cheers.
