I want as many members as possible to have a chance at a 1993 Derek Jeter SP RC. So I've decided to give away spots in my current break where we will break 3 boxes in search of them.

http://www.blowoutcards.com/forums/join-new-group-breaks-here/793278-1993-sp-baseball-player-random-derek-jeter-rc-chase-3-spot.html

There's no set amount of how many spots I'll giveaway, I may give away 4, 10 or maybe 15 no idea right now.

The way this will work is I will make a post asking for a story or maybe an answer to a question and then I may pick at random or by choice one or more members to receive a free spot in the break.

Also if you just want a shot at the Jeter goodness sign up in the break thread, spots are only $3!

Rules
- You may only post once per giveaway
- No editing your post on questions, editing is allowed if I asked for a story/memory
- I have the right to disqualify as I see fit
- If you've already won you may try again

So here we go.....

This was on ebay this past week by a super shady seller. Zero feedback, wanted direct PayPal, red flags all over the place. He was also located in Camden, the absolute worst part of NJ (maybe top three worst cities in the country). I really wanted that card, but not that bad. Anyone else see this?

Favorite Jeter story:
It's the summer of 1997 in New York and Derek Jeter is taking the city by storm, coming off his Rookie of the Year season and first Yankees World Championship in almost 20 years. The future is looking bright and all young baseball fans are excited about Jeter's and the Yankees future. Including this young lad.
The VFW would have a monthly card show that I would run to and spend the little money I had on any new Jeter cards. On one occasion I took my then GF and little cousin along with me and bought the usual. As we were leaving my GF said why not buy a pack of that? It was a pack of Bowman. Who am I to argue with the GF?
Fast forwarding, later in the day we're back at my parents place and I'm finally opening the packs. What do I find? A Jeter Bowman green Auto. As you can imagine I was excited as a kid in a candy store.
A few months down the line I traded that card to my GF for her favorite teddy bear with the agreement that I get it back when we're married. Like any other Jeter fan would do, I married her for the card and the Jeter is back safe and sound in my collection, never to leave again.
Moral of the story: don't trade your cards to your GF because you'll have to marry her to get them back.

Favorite moment as a fan - when he dove into the stands in 2004. Whether that was stupid or not, I liked him a little more from that point on.

Jeter had just finished his rookie season and was making an appearance at the Super Show(sports retailers convention). I was going to get in line for his auto, but got to the line a little later than I wanted to because I was I was getting Mike Piazza's auto at the Rawlings booth. So I decided to grab a hot dog at the concession stand. I got back to the line and it was super long, so I just sat down at the end and started eating. Suddenly I hear someone say, "Why would you guys wait in a line this long for an autograph?" I look up to see who said it and it was Jeter. He kinda laughed and then said, "Don't worry guys, I'll stay until I sign something for everyone." 2 hours later I got to the front of the line and he signed all of the items I had. Really cool guy.

Forecast called for heavy rain all day/night and the game had a good chance of being rained out/NOT made up. Pic below shows what happened 20mins before first pitch. Sat out in LF with a bunch of people we didn't know. By the time that game ended we were all hugging/high-fiving like we'd known each other for years!! I actually took a cell video of the moment and uploaded it here:

Thank you for the contest, SportCardBuffet. :)! I hope my entry still counts. Here is my Derek Jeter story mostly about my experiences surrounding Jeter's final home game:

I first became a Yankees fan in 1994, even though that was the year of the strike and the Yankees hadn't been very good in years I still picked the Yankees as my team and started following them more closely from then on. The next year I became aware that there was some young prospect named Derek Jeter who they were touting as the next big thing for the Yankees, so I started following him more closely. After watching him for awhile I felt there was something special about him and I soon became a big fan of him. Not long thereafter the dynasty years happened and I became an even bigger fan of both Jeter and the Yankees. So from my childhood on I grew up watching Jeter and I feel I have grown older with him.

As an aside I got my first baseball cards when I was a kid as a reward for selling stamps for my local baseball club. I had to pick my favorite team and got a little brown envelope with assorted Yankee players. The cards were probably worthless, but as a kid I was pretty excited about them and it probably started my card collecting craze. The first pack I bought myself were 1994 Upper Deck and I remember being really impressed by them, because they had a full photo on the back as well, which a lot of cards at the time did not have. I think my first Jeter card was 1995 UD SP, which I still own.

As a huge Jeter and Yankees fan I wish I could have seen him play live more frequently, but I live too far away from New York to visit Yankee stadium often, so whenever I get the chance to visit New York (mostly with family) I try to see at least two or three Yankee games. In twenty years I've only been able to watch about 25 games total at Yankee stadium. When Jeter announced his retirement I knew I wanted to see him play live one more time. However it's quite expensive for me to go to New York, so I was hoping my family would go there at some point during the season, so I could come along with them. But come September they still had no plans at all to visit New York. Then my older brother told me he was going to Boston at the end of that month and the plan was for me to come along to see Jeter's final games at Fenway. The plan fell through when my brother eventually couldn't go at all and my mother didn't like the idea of me going to New York alone without a place to stay and told me to just watch the baseball games on the internet.

But I persisted thinking this is your last chance to see your childhood hero. As a huge Jeter fan you would regret it if you don't go to see him play one last time. So I eventually went to New York City to see Jeter's final three games at Yankee stadium. In the first two games I attended on this trip it was good to watch Jeter live at the stadium again, but the games themselves were pretty forgettable with bad losses to the Orioles. But I already had a feeling that his final game at Yankee stadium would be something more special. I had bought my ticket for Jeter's final Yankee stadium game the week before on Stubhub, but the day before the game the tickets still weren't made available yet by the seller. So I was panicking a bit, did I travel all this way to New York and not be able to attend his final game in New York at all, while I had a chance to? But then I got a message from Stubhub that the seller could not provide me with the tickets for my seat, so they would upgrade me to a better seat. And they actually gave me seats pretty close to the field, which were probably going for thousands of dollars, so that was absolutely awesome. So i picked up my tickets in the morning, but it started raining quite a lot and there was a 50% chance that it would be raining till the evening. So I thought to myself I am here in New York, I have these awesome tickets, but this game could get rained out. If there was to be a make-up game I wouldn't be there and if the game wouldn't be made up at all, I instinctively knew that we all would have missed something special. So I went to the game early, but it was still pouring rain one hour before game time, so I was worrying that if they start this game at all, there was still a chance that they would only get a few innings in, before the rain would prevent them from playing, which off course would be anti-climatic considering all the anticipation for Jeter's final New York game. But then not long before game-time after it had stopped raining, a rainbow appeared and it turned out to be a sign for special things to come.

In Jeter's first at-bat he came pretty close to hitting a home-run and the stadium started buzzing immediately. The buzz in the stadium felt different than usual, the atmosphere felt like a play-off game in the old stadium again.
The stadium was loudly thanking Jeter during the whole game and it became increasingly louder from the seventh inning onwards. I never saw Jeter so fidgety and emotional in the field. You could see that the emotions were getting to him. Jeter had produced the go-ahead RBI (even though it was an error by Hardy) in the later innings and was quite close to a HR in his first at-bat, so I remember thinking that is a pretty nice way to end your career. The Yankees were leading 5-2 going into the final innings and the closer David Robertson had been pretty automatic all season, so my thoughts started wandering to what the Yankees would do with Jeter to celebrate his final appearance at Yankee stadium. Would they take him out in the final innings to get his curtain call like they did the year before with Mariano Rivera? Suddenly when I'm pondering over all this the Orioles' Adam Jones hits a two-run HR and it's 5-4. I'm thinking David Robertson will still get out of this, he has done his Houdini act many times before, he just likes making things more suspenseful. But then he immediately gives up another bomb to Steve Pearce. The game is tied 5-5. The crowd is stunned. I"m looking at the fans sitting next to me, they are like "You can't be serious!" "This isn't happening!" Are they really going to ruin Jeter's final day at the stadium? The Orioles had been the stronger team all season and this year they had turned many Yankee leads into late inning wins for them. What a let-down it would be if the Orioles won again after another Yankee lead disappeared, raining on Yankees' parade, especially on a day that everybody wanted to celebrate Jeter. The Yankees had also not been very good at late inning comebacks this year, so my expectations were not that high.
Then I realized Jeter is up third in the bottom of the ninth. Is it possible? Could he have one more magical moment left in him? Up to that point Jeter did not have a walk-off hit in the new stadium yet. Would it be too much to ask him to produce now? Runner on second. One out in the bottom of the ninth. Jeter is up. I remember thinking Jeter has a knack for magical moments. I started believing he could do this.
And then the next sequence of events happened so fast I could hardly grasp it. The first pitch Jeter saw was hit past a diving Steve Pearce. The throw from right-field is not in time. The runner scores. Walk-Off! The stadium absolutely explodes. I've been to a few exciting play-off games, but I never felt the stadium rocking like it did that night. New York's favorite son gives them one last gift to remember. The way the game ended seemed just too perfect to be true. When your childhood hero does something like that it almost feels like a minor miracle. That night I was so excited I could hardly sleep thinking of what I had just witnessed that evening.

Another more quiet moment I will never forget came after the game had ended, Jeter walked to his shortstop position one last time, crouched down and started praying.
That is a moment I captured on camera and it fittingly encapsulates Jeter for me:
A legendary great, who had the gift of providing many magical moments, but always stayed humble.

Gotta get a signed photo of the famous Giambi play.

In case you didn't know....

For the iPad i hold down on the image to "save to library". Then after downloading the Photobucket app I open it and I upload it to my photo library in photobucket. Once it is uploaded there is a link symbol up top towards the right.

You can click on it and get the image code. Hope this helps in the future if you need it :)
