Hey guys - back into the hobby after 20+ Years (my 7 year old got interested and it gave me an excuse to get back to it!) and busted two boxes of Archives today. Nothing too exciting but:

Curt Warner Printing Plate
Duper Auto
Okoye Auto
W Walker Auto
A Carter Auto

Anybody shed any light on the value to the printing plates? Caleb (my son) and I have been at this for about 1.5 months and that is obviously the rarest card we have busted.

Thanks!

Danny

Welcome back to the hobby, and welcome to Blowout forums. We're glad you're here!

Thanks for posting this break (and a couple others, I see). I like the Archives product because of the old school designs, so even if there aren't the huge "mojo pulls" that drive many folks, I enjoy pulling cards of guys I remember cheering for back in the day.

As to your question on value, printing plates (and 1/1s in general) tend to be all over the board. You'll no doubt get people who tell you "start an auction at $0.99 and you'll find out the value", but I tend to set a higher reservation price as I've found a lot of cards like this will have one interested buyer (so the card will sell) but not two (so there won't be a bidding war). I tend to price plates I'm selling at $20 starting price. If they go higher, great. If they get one bid and sell at $20, so be it. If no one buys them, I'm ok with that as I'd rather have a cool piece in my collection than to let it go for a few bucks.

Not sure this helped as this part of the hobby is so subjective, just sharing how one person thinks about it. Regardless of whether you keep or sell this plate, I hope that you enjoyed the break and that this is the start of a long relationship with the hobby for you and your son.

Cheers

Mark

Mark - thanks - EXTREMELY helpful. I would think with a 1/1 piece it would be decent money but that is not why we are here...it was fun pulling it.

Thanks again!

not mine, but one went for about $15 delivered (from the same set)

Congrats on giving an honest answer and a warm welcome rather than sarcasm. It's nice seeing others help out instead of telling him to "figure it out". Kudos to you my friend.

Guys = thanks again. Murphy - thanks for your sentiments. Obviously can look at ebay but that is definitely not a good indicator at times....

Happy Thanksgiving!
