So I had a card listed for auction for $14.99. No bids, relisted at $24.99 with Best Offer, guys snags it 5 minutes later for $24.99! Why hate auctions sometimes!

Sometimes you'll get the opposite. Have a card listed for 24.99 and then some people will be bidding for over $30.
Eventually you'll get an offer from the guy who came in 2nd for $23, and you ask him why he would bid $32 and not hit the BIN at $25?
Good times.

I've learned early on that the best way to go on auctions is .99 7 day. For whatever reason those will always do better for me than starting out a high $ auction. I'm assuming because you get more people in on the lower price point which then breeds competitive bidding.

The problem is you listed it at $14.99. Like the poster above he stated, .99 7 day. It gets more people interested. I see a ton of cards go I sold at say $59.99 that I know would sell for 70-80 at auction. It just turns bidders off

I barely list ANYTHING at .99 anymore. I really think you rarely get top dollar with auctions.

The part in bold is 100% accurate. Start low and you'll get more watchers and then toward the end it will breed competition and bidders will be more willing to go beyond their original target price they had in mind. I know it has happened to me more than a few times. I end up feeling the need to win at any cost...#winning.

Problem is, it has to be a semi-hot card to benefit from a $.99 auction.
Let's use a 2014 Topps Chrome Gold common player. Doesn't matter who. Start the auction at $.99 and try to see if you get to $3-$5. Be patient and put it at $9.99, one day, you'll find the one guy that will pay it. It will take time, but likely will sell at some point in time. I do it all the time. $.99 auction is a recipe for getting $1-$3 for cards that could get $5-$10 with patience.
