Very amazing collection. The different approaches and interpretations are what make this set interesting. It seems like the artists had a lot of freedom and actually got to have FUN with it, instead of being stuck within strict guidelines.

Those were a lot of fun to make, and kudos to Devlyn for posting up his amazing Cline animation and putting the bug in my ear.

Next are some incredible custom cards from Jason Potratz. I've been working with Jason and Jack Hai for years now creating custom PSC cards for my Lord of the Rings storyboard project (which will soon live here on Blowout). When the AT set came out with the blank cards, I knew that I had to commission some pieces (and the slick surface seems to limit it to painted work, as pencil and ink don't want to stay put).

I decided Jason himself should do these cards, even though I adore his work with Jack - having seen Jason's recent solo work I knew his style was a grand slam for this set, and as you will see, I was dead-on. My only direction to him was this: AT meets Calvin and Hobbes. See for yourself how he nailed it:

I love how that came out - I think it perfectly captures the magic of both properties.

Jason also threw in some extras for me. I haven't seen the scratch art cards since I was a kid, and they've clearly evolved. I love how the foil cards came out, but the b&w cards are no slouches either!

I love that little touch. The artists really got to just have fun on this set, and it shows! It also impacts my ability to stay away. Got a loose box and picked up this nice Denver Brubaker sketch, and couldn't resist this oversized Matt Hansen beauty.

Yeah I love that effect with the mountain. That one card sums up perfectly what is so special about this set. Every one of these artists got to let their imaginations run wild. LOTR is my other passion, but within there the artists has to interpret actors and filmed locations. Here, the sky was the limit. Movie spoofs were popular as were riffs on art history. The results were borderline magical.

Thanks JJ! That one helped push me back into the AT camp. After a lousy case break I was very down on the product. Thankfully Crypto came through and replaced the two missing sketches. So ... I've been slowly buying out pretty much every AT box/case I can find, and I've not been posting as I've been kind of busy at work.

Rather than drag it out over days or weeks, how about an epic post? 89 new Adventure Time sketch cards. I'm not going to label the artists here to save time - the filenames all contain the full artist name, and they are all in alphabetical order (by first name - I think I initially did that to match the Crypto checklist). I love them all, but adding my second card from Tracy Bailey, Katie Cook and Jay Fosgitt were definite highlights.

I still have only one white whale - I will pay or trade heavily for an Oversized Jeremy Treece.

These are getting harder and harder to come by.

I find it hard to believe there are hundreds of boxes floating out there, but that's the first impression having seen so many of the full sets from various artists. I suspect it's just that we crazy collectors on this little forum are just a small piece of the AT card collecting world, and there are many other collectors who dont share online. It's a shame because this was such a simply incredible set.

I dont see another update of this size happening again, so let's call this the last hurrah! Most were broken by me, a few were acquisitions.

I know what you mean. The cards have to be somewhere. Sad they aren't being show or sold. There were a lot more I was looking for. Maybe (theylurfaceven<---how does that even make sense to autocorrect?) They'll surface someday. I'm glad to have gotten. What I did tho. :)

As you have seen if you follow my thread, for AT I tend to group up cards and upload in bulk. This is a special edition. A collector from these boards seems to have sold their collection. I traded about 20 of these cards to them, so we have dealt before, but for whatever reason they sold to a dealer. Fortunately that dealer is awesome and knows I am a huge AT junkie, so I ended up with the full collection.

I have about 2 dozen others that I have been slowly releasing from packs when the prices are reasonable, I'll look to upload those before the end of the year.

In the meantime, here are 91 new cards for my collection. And as always, thank you very much to those of you who take the time to comment in the threads. On behalf of everyone who posts, I can assure you that it makes us feel good to know that others appreciate seeing these wonderful cards displayed.

Searched high and low. It took a LONG time, but in the end I came up with a case and 9 loose boxes. 21 sketch cards freed from the bonds of shrink-wrap!

God I wish they did a second season of this. Thank god for Rick and Morty! If you think this collection is good, you have no idea :)

Ok, I am imposing a deadline on myself. After this I still have another 550 new cards to share, bringing my collection to north of 1,000 Adventure Time sketch cards. I am going to have them all shared by year-end.

They are all scanned individually, the hardest part are the image limits in these forums, I need to create single images with 9 cards each in order to keep my page 1 scans all in order.

And YES, there is a story behind all of these. I'll share what I can soon, but needless to say that most of the cards you will see in the next 5 weeks never found their way into packs, and some of the artists are going to be surprised to see these. Remember, I'm just a fan who stumbled my way into these!

No need to apologize nazby, I love knowing that people other than me enjoy seeing these.

And I agree on R&M - even putting aside some of these recent cards which were rejected for licensing concerns, AT was so liberal in what the artists were allowed to do that it's sad how much they had to clamp down on other sets like R&M. Some R&M artists definitely were able to be stealthily-creative, and the reason I did so many APs for R&M was precisely to allow for some extended creative output. I still have a lot to go, but I am starting off 2020 with my long sought after victory. With the Jeremy Treece card below, I now have completed a Master Set of every sketch card artist, including at least one of the oversized sketch card redemptions from each of the six artists who participated.

This was a LONG search, over five years, and I am thrilled to finally be done.

And as you will see eventually, this could be called a Master Set + since I have a few artists who never officially made it into the release, stay tuned :)

It's hard to overstate how incredible the work of John Soukup was on this set. He embodies the freedom that this set allowed the artists. And now that it has become clear that there were indeed a bunch of restrictions (mostly conveyed after the fact by Cryptozoic, hence all of these rejected cards) that he was even more creative with the topics than the released cards would indicate.

We've got riffs on Klimt, Botticelli, Magritte and Escher. Indiana Jones, Star Wars, The Shining, Nightmare on Elm ... so many wonderful fine art and pop culture tributes!

There's an app coming out soon which will have access to all of my sketches, so they will be visible by year end.

All I will say for now is this: all of the sketches that were rejected by Cryptozoic? The artists were told the sketches were destroyed. Cryptozoic lied. They were saved, and then years later became available. You've probably seen a few on ebay from some of their largest dealers who have always had a back door.

All I will say for now is this: all of the sketches that were rejected by Cryptozoic? The artists were told the sketches were destroyed. Cryptozoic lied. They were saved, and then years later became available. You've probably seen a few on ebay from some of their largest dealers who have always had a back door.

I got my hands on close to 500 of them.


Oh, I can't wait to see this. They still had all the unredeemed oversized sketches from AT and Batman, too...
