View Full Version : Has Anyone Ever Seen This Card?

In the comments of this post, a guy named KEN states that he pulled the 2008 Ty Cobb bat barrel, and it may've had the wrong type of jersey in it (two pieces of jersey accented the bat barrel on the opposite side of the book). This just makes you wonder what cards have been pulled, only to never surface online...
Beckett News » Topps corrects Lou Gehrig Triple Threads error — with a cut autograph (http://www.beckett.com/news/2012/01/topps-corrects-lou-gehrig-triple-threads-error-with-a-cut-autograph/)
KEN
It’s sad that Topps makes major mistakes on the high dollar pulls that help generate the sales of many of their products. I pulled a Ty Cobb bat nameplate card from their 2008 Triple Threads that has what looks like 2 Yankee pinstripes as authentic game worn patches. The 2 swatche’s pinstripes are each of a different pattern. Did Cobb ever wear a pinestripe jersey? This card was pictured in Beckett Sports Card Monthly July 2009 issue on page 23.
Does anyone have the Beckett mentioned?

Wow. What are the odds? This guy works with me and I buy and sell cards for him frequently. He's a nice guy, just not big on online dealing.

BTW- the swatch from Kens card ended up being from a pinstriped Tigers uni and was legit. Apparently they wore pinstripes for a short time. I have a scan of this somewhere on my work computer

I would love to see it. I can't recollect ever seeing another Cobb with pinstripes

That was traced back to the 2005 All Star Corpse Game.

Beautiful... although, I can't find any other instance of Topps using this specific jersey for Cobb...

Yes, the jersey swatches themselves were not authenticated, but Chris Olds reached out to an expert on baseball uniforms and that guy confirmed only that it resembles a pinstriped jersey the Tigers wore for a year or two. You'd certainly think that if Topps bought a jersey that you'd see more of those swatches elsewhere. Also note that the card says it should contain jersey "patches".
