Sad to see this especially how the accident was tied to drinking and driving. I can't imagine that the family will make much money from this auction. Some of the bids may be "charity" type bids. The death of Oscar Taveras changed many lives.

Link to article below and list of auction items below;

Oscar Taveras Gear Being Sold, Proceeds Support Family (http://www.cardboardconnection.com/baseball/oscar-taveras-game-used-memorabilia-headed-auction-proceeds-support-family)

Here are full details on all nine of the Oscar Taveras lots being sold by Goldin Auctions:

That is sad. The family must be hard up to sell his rings. That seems like something they'd want to keep.

You know that is exactly what happened! I am sure the entire family has been on a serious spending spree because their future was set. They probably even owe much more from borrowing on his future earnings. Everyone had a hand in his pocket, many people probably were backing him for years, time to pay up.

Yep, it is pretty common for loans and favors to be granted towards future earnings. Upon his death, I'm sure those all came due and Oscar had yet to make any real money. In this case it is just an assumption on my part obviously but it is extremely likely. I'm not sure how I feel either. It is wrong for family and friends to mooch on a relative and it is fiscally irresponsible to spend something that isn't yet made yet but they also just lost a loved one so some slack should be cut. Of course if I just lost a loved one, the last thing on my mind is selling off all of their stuff. Just saying.

Did you guys even read the article? A FAN is selling items to support the Taveras family. The family isn't selling anything. No one knows the financial status of the Taveras family, this was just a kind gesture by a fan after the family lost a loved one.

Of course I read the article! Either way, you don't think the family has a huge bill they will have to pay? Everyone who was involved in his training and baseball education had a piece of that pie.

Who? Who exactly had "a piece of that pie?" His training when? Because I'm sure when he was signed by the Cardinals they provided trainers pro bono and baseball education? What exactly is that? He made close to a million dollars during his playing career, I'm sure the family is just fine. Not living the lifestyles of the rich and the famous by any means, but I'm sure they're not hurting either.

Sooo you're basing your information off of a movie? And is Oscar Taveras anyway involved in that at all? Or is that another assumption? It looks like I may not be the one who is making misinformed statements. Maybe you should do research that doesn't date back to 2012. Here is a start for you:

Way to use one source, MLB, do you actually think they would say anything negative? Yes, they made their rules and EVERYBODY in DomRep follows those MLB rules because MLB told them they had to follow them. Everything changes when rules are made, we all know that always happens.

Keep your blinders on, the world is a wonderful place with a level playing field for all. Maybe you should go experience some of it away from a tour group or an all inclusive resort.

I'll enjoy my drink on the beach at my all inclusive resort, while you go out and continue your search for Bigfoot/The Lochness Monster/UFO's.

Do you by chance have any info on who shot JFK? Or where Jimmy Hoffa is buried?

Conspiracies....conspiracies everywhere! Don't take anything for granted. Or if you believe Mulder and Scully from The X-Files, "The Truth is Out There" and I think you found it in a poorly made movie that got no attention from a few years ago. How will the Taveras family ever survive?!

Here's another source for you outside of MLB.com:

Coming from the guy who admitted he didn't even read the article. Lol, it's called sarcasm...I receive it and then give it back. We're busting balls here, nothing I say should be taken seriously, he's taking one side and I the other. It's been fun chatting with Tarjeta, but thank you for your kind words, I was hoping more for a douche level of 12, but considering it only goes to 10, 11 will do.

I would love to give a 12 but the amp 'only' goes up to 11 (you clearly don't get the reference but I admire the spunk). I should know, I've maxed that bish out many times myself. In my defense, I know Marcos pretty well and he is the originator of the thread which linked the article. When he responded to my first post like he did, I took the tone from that. I normally would never comment on an article, story, thread etc without fully reading what I'm posting on but this time I made the mistake because it was him and I trust him.

Still on me though and he's still my guy. Got a little poo on my face, not the first time and it won't be the last. I stand by the things I was saying but as generalizations. I obviously can't put those types of things on the Taveras family based on the article.

I am banned from all all-inclusive resorts world wide (long story, Scotland Yard was involved and a goat) with the exception of one seedy one in Tijuana so I have to request that you abstain from rubbing the proverbial salt in the wounds. If you would like to discuss Motel 6 stays then I'm your guy.

The fan is actually a friend of mine, a huge game-used collector and a spectacularly kind guy. Oscar wasn't sentimental about his GU items and sold part of them to my friend only a day or so before the accident. In spite of the unfortunate and irresponsible way that it happened, Oscar's death really affected a lot of us here in the STL Cardinals community, and my friend took what I think is an incredibly generous step to auction these items for the family. Whether they "need" it or not isn't really the point. They're dealing with a terrible tragedy.

This is Spinal Tap!! Great movie! And no big deal, everyone seems to jump the gun on here from time to time. Hell if you go back and read some of my threads, I've been slammed more times than Andre the Giant at Wrestlemania against Hulk Hogan. (RIP Andre....as I'm sure he's sharing a beer with Taveras right now....errrr maybe not).

Anyway, great back and forth by all, it's the reason I come to this place (and for the baseball insight at times). So thanks for helping me pass the hours.

1 million dollars aint sh%t. Especially as a ballplayer. Agent takes 10% pretax, Pay your publicist if you have one etc. And the state and feds will take roughly 50% Of that 1 Million he probably saw $350,000 if he was lucky. Now buy a house, and a car. You are now close to broke.

I'd be fibbing if I said I didn't get a smile out of it. I thought you handled your initial chastening with good grace. It was when you were defending TB, who fired the first blows, that I thought you truly got it wrong though, although it seems you recognise that anyway.

Yep, Twins is sucking a lot of the fun out of that thread but he was just slapped with a co-owner. That should fix the problem. I'm just there for the trash talk anyways. You're plenty good at that so you should do the same. It takes some of the stress off of dealing with guys like him.

A debate that ended without the thread being closed, or posts deleted? Where the FU<K am I!? Is this Sportscardforum? I am particularly holding Jared or Marco responsible for this. Jms, you are known to derail threads. Marco, you are now involved because Jms decided to announce you as his new lover without really saying it. I don't make the rules, but that's how shyt works. Will the real JohnRyno please come in here , and offend the heck out of some people. I felt like I was receiving pats on the back as I was reading. It is disgusting. Just because it is Christmas, and many of us are in better moods does not mean we need to bring that trash here people. Leave that stuff at home, and quit trying to bring down our beloved forum.
