seems like comic book folk just have more $$$ to waste ;) according to the article below others have sold for six figures such as amazing fantasy with spiderman on the cover.

Those comic books in your basement could be gold (http://www.cnbc.com/id/101920191#.)

Most card collectors live in a bubble. Comics are far more popular world wide. Many auction houses focus more on comics than sports cards. Superman, Spiderman, and Batman never get hurt, change teams, or retire. Their popularity last generations.

Exactly. There are probably 100x more Comicbook collectors than Basketball card collectors. Plus alot more of these super super rich guys collect comics.

Comics from the 30's have nothing to do with cards... Smh

Shilltastic!

I wonder how they get around the final fees? Do they cancel or something? Them hope to get a sucker the next time around? Maybe that "record price" will stick in their memory, and they'll actually bid anywhere near that?

Anybody wanna shine some light on the situation? How do they get away with paying the eBay fees just to hype the card? Thanks in advance!

What kind of FANTASY WORLD are these people living in with these bogus prices?! SMH...

How else you gonna sell it? You gotta pay an auction house or have a store and pay rent or consign it at a store. Good luck ever moving that at a random store. Also doesn't ebay have a max fee for $300 or something or is it $3k.

Not everything is shilled man some people are loaded and these days people spend money on other things besides paintings and postage stamps. That is an iconic comic in mint condition. What is a few mill to a billionaire dot com tycoon. Also any comic store with that in it instantly is the most popular store around.

I'm not talking about the comic... The comic is from 1938 first of all, and then the grade is very high and rare.

There are gazillion logomans out there, and there is no stopping how many jerseys the players have, and will have for many years I come.

I don't think that price would be realistic if that was the ONLY logoman card for all three players. I personally like solo logomans, because what's the odds you like the combo on the card? But that's not even the point...

Ugly design in my very honest opinion. But besides that, the price is absolute bogus. Not even in their wildest dreams it would sell for that much, let alone REAL LIFE! smh

But whoever wants to relieve these prices, then so be it! These wouldn't be worth that even if t were ALL three players rookie year logomans. Lol smh

Big deal about how old it is, just because something is old or new doesn't mean it is or is not valuable.

What an awesome piece that comic is. I will admit I began reading the scanned pages while looking at the auction. Also, did anyone notice the tear on the back of the comic, top right corner? I wonder if that was the defect keeping it from being perfect? Anyway, huge comic, crazy it is in such great shape for the age.

And to compare these to cards, Comics have celebrity buyers. As soon as some deep pocket celebs get into the cardboard hobby, maybe our vintage will jump?

That's funny. My nemesis is the one who sold that Triple Logoman (for a friend). Anybody really believe he was selling that card for a friend?????

You completely misunderstood - I'm saying I don't think the book is shilled, cards on the other hand get shilled regularly. Are cards valuable? Sure, but not so valuable that they would sell for prices we've seen if there wasn't any market manipulation at work.

The rarity in a comic book like that is organic, it's not artificially rare because some one decided to print just ONE. It's from 1938 and in the best shape to be found. In 1938 people didn't buy comic books and think about how rare one might be if it was kept in good shape.

The market on an item that enjoys organic rarity is a lot less likely to be shilled, especially considering how old it is and how large the comic book collecting community is.

This. I think a lot of people have delusions of grandeur about how popular our hobby actually is. They regularly make top-grossing films about superheros, not basketball players.

All the bidders on the comic book had to go through prequalification before being allowed to bid. There are also a lot of reasons why this comic went for so much. Also, like others have said, there are a fair amount of comic book collectors who have deep, deep pockets. When the top, most sought after comic book goes up for sale and has a grade of 9.0, the sky is the limit in terms of how much it is worth.

Just because something sells for a record price it seems to bring out the shill bidding accusers and skeptics. I know the owner who had it for a while and believe me, he got paid - in FULL. :)!

Kinda addicted to both hobbies, actually.

I am into comics too. I have my weekly pulls and I still buy key back issues from time to time. But I am not into the graded stuff (yet). That part of the hobby is just too damn expensive, and having 3 hobbies (including Hot Wheels, Diecast cars) takes a toll on my wallet.

The comicbook market is not the same as that of cardboard. CGC graded comics and authenticated CGC versions are not questioned unlike our PSA and BGS slabbed cards. Comics also have resellers, but they are not being tagged as eBay shillers just because an auction went surprisingly high.

This market has had its up and downs, but right now, it is on its utmost high due to the movies and tv series based on comicbooks. It is a pretty hot item in my country today, honestly. And I feel that it wont die down easily.

But cardboard is still my #1 priority. Guess I love Basketball more than super heroes. Lol.

I feel your struggle been back on the cardboard for 7 or 8 years and just started with Hot Wheels 4 months ago plus I still have all my old comics but I dont buy any comics these days.
