View Full Version : NFL Releases Ads Discouraging The Purchase Of Counterfeit Goods

I believe these ads are exclusive to NFL Network. Michael Irvin says buying counterfeit goods funds criminal enterprises (remember those jerseys you could buy for $30??). When it comes to jerseys, I believe the price of a jersey shouldn't be the same as a ticket to a game. However most substitutes (counterfeits) while being cheaper are terrible alternatives to the real thing.
I'm conflicted.
Do you own an authentic jersey? Do you own a counterfeit? What are your thoughts?

All the jerseys I buy are the china knockoffs. Only $30 each so I can get a bunch and look very very close to a authentic one. Don't need to spend $300 on a authentic one. For that I can get 10 knockoffs. Also with the knockoffs costing so little I don't have to worry about spilling something on it and ruining it like I would with the real one. So any day I will go over with a knockoff. Plan to buy more in the future. NFL only cares because they can't make $280 profit on that $300 jersey.

I have both kinds but I find myself wearing my knockoffs more often exactly because of what you said. I'll spill something, get it dirty someway, etc. and not worry about it. When I go to Lambeau I wear the real thing though.

If the NFL doesn't want me buying 30.00 NFL jerseys then maybe they should stop charging 200 for them.

I have have knockoff and authentic, if you're going to go somewhere where you know it could get trashed wear a cheapo, but when I go to games, certain events i wouldn't dream of wearing knockoffs. Anyone who says they close to authentic doesnt know squat about a jersey. Are they over priced? Certainly, but the quality is miles ahead of a knockoff. I just picked up the nike platinum Tannehill, such a comfortable nice piece.

BS 99% of the people are not going to look close enough at your jersey to tell if its a knockoff or authentic. IMO authentic is for people who want to waste money on something that is just as good. Authentic's are made by the same kid in China as the knockoffs are.

I beg to differ, I can spot a fake miles away. May be made in the same place but the time and material are used differently on the 2. If that were the case no one would buy authentic or name brand anything. Not everything is the same quality because its made in the same place. Examples: loose threads and strings hanging, glossy numbers, number and letter spacing, tag placement, and logo design placement, loose/larger than normal neck holes. Some are more subtle than others but for the most part cheap jerseys look like cheap jerseys

$200+ or $30.....I'll take a $30 jersey all day and if anyone wants to complain, I'll just let then buy me an authentic replacement.
Jersey snobs, hate them.

I bet the next ad will say that you help fund terrorism by buying a counterfeit jersey.

Buying real supports the NFL Mafia.

I find this part hilarious considering the amount of cocaine Irvin has put up his nose. Probably enough by himself to fund an enterprise.

just wait for your team to go to the superbowl and get crushed badly. Superbowl jerseys go on the clearance rack fast.

The NFL needs that money. Times are tough when you are struggling like they are.
So cynical. Couldn't it be that the NFL, much like the NBA.....cares?

Really? I can see the 30 vs 200, but there's way to much of a difference between them to mess with at 175 vs 200. To each their own though.
