View Full Version : Marvel Avengers Kree-Skrull War Sketch Card
I bought my son some of these boxes to break on Christmas and he pulled an Iron Man 1 of 1 sketch card and a printing plate. I forgot what character is on the plate. Are these worth anything or should he just hold on to it? I know these boxes are very cheap so he doesn't expect it to rake in big money but he would like to know if it would be worth selling. Any help is appreciated and I can get a scan if needed. Thanks in advance.
Probably in the $20-25 range for the plate.
As for the sketch value.. all depends on the artist.

Yeah, a scan and an artist name on the sketch always helps in determining price. It can vary quite a bit... Hopefully he got a good one though!

Cal Slayton on the sketch. Probably only in the $15 range.
Thanks for the help. I think he'll be happy to just hold on to it. Now I need to find some boxes that contain Deadpool and Deathstroke since those are his 2 favorite characters at the moment. He's also a huge Avengers fan.

Sketch cards were rare pulls on this set 1:12 boxes or so, there might be a premium on a sketch based on rarity.

There was a bit when the set was fresh, but these years later it is pretty exclusively quality/name based.

Disagree a bit.
Kree Skrull War sketches are still pretty rare and one of the very few sets without dozens of sketches recycling over and over on eBay for years.
In the last two years-
~$5 sketches in any other product have been bringing $20-30+
~$10-15 sketches in any other product have been bringing $30-$60+
There's been a bunch mispriced (*cough* that recent Hall *cough*) but both color and quality seem to bring a premium (in addition to being KSW) so it's not all about the "name." I've seen Acars go for $150-$800+ depending on quality. But across the board the quality seems pretty high by all artists - strong linework and good detail/colors by most.
BTW Justice, pulled your 4th sketch awhile back with the Skrull... it actually looks better in person :D. Thanks for sharing your sketches - not sure if I had ever seen them posted... lol, been awhile since set came out.

Wow it looks like that Hall was a steal both times it was sold. Surprised the flipper let it go so low. Probably could have gotten double or more.
I don't know... Maybe you're right, but it just seems like regular variation to me. Seems to me the difference between a $10 sketch card and a $35 sketch card has more to do with luck and patience than quality these days. But I haven't been paying particular attention to KSW for about year or so now, since the breaks seemed to slow down quite a bit.
A few years ago there was an obvious premium to Upper Deck Marvel cards of the same artist/quality over their Rittenhouse Archives counterparts. Not sure if that still exists now that UD is loading the market to pretty much the same extent as RA. I've been so busy the last few months I barely have time to do any searching :(

This was when UD lost a lot of artists AR's and when I got tired of doing work for them. I was out 2 sets later. They still owe me 50 bucks.

Who the hell is Ricard McWilliam? Is Mr. Egomaniac?
justice41, it is great artwork. It is too bad some big companies aren't so good in the moment to pay for word done.

He was the Co-Founder of Upper Deck that passed away almost 2 years ago. Not sure why Upper Deck has been using his signature on the back of 2014 cards though. Must be a tribute or something.
