Objectivity and reality shouldn't go out the window when you are a fan of a team. The Ravens are my favorite team and of course I am rooting for them to pull off an upset, but that doesn't change the fact that I feel that the chances of a victory are slim.

People can overreact when they think they're being objective and realistic, though, and veer off into an overly negative mood. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Ravens pulled off the upset.

Best rivalry in the NFL. I'd much rather have the Ravens play Cincinnati though. Especially what Big Ben done to them last time. As a Ravens fan it was unbearable to watch. Will be a shame if Bell isn't able to play.

ECCC
12-29-2014, 03:12 PM
I really think it's a toss up. I'm trying not to be biased to the Ravens at all. Both teams have had bad losses this year, Baltimore lost to (Pit, Chargers, Texans) and the Steelers lost to (Tampa, Jets, NO) and they've both also had dominant wins, Baltimore against (Carolina, TB, Pit) and Pittsburgh against (Colts, Bengals, Ravens). Not to mention the Ravens and Steelers have split their last 14 matchups, including the playoffs. Le'Veon Bell's health may be a factor as well, Haloti Ngata will also be in the Ravens lineup for the first time in weeks. Antonio Brown will be an issue for Baltimore, but they've shut down top receivers this year before (primarily Jimmy Graham).

He is objective. Objectively pessimistic.

It's an easy way to maintain the appearance of being "right." If the negative predictions come to fruition, that's an easy "told ya' so" moment. If the negative predictions are incorrect, it's an easy "well, they're my favorite team and of course I want them to win."

metspollo123 does this in the philly threads, however he's not quite as clever as rizayrizay.

I agree with him here and think Lardarius will be unable to handle Brown. If the pass rush can actually sack ben, we will be in business.

Pullin for the Ravens upset here.

Thank you... I think:devil:

If Ben has time to execute, I think the Steelers can win somewhat comfortably (I don't see the Ravens keeping up on the scoreboard without short fields). If this becomes typical Steelers vs. Ravens where Ben is getting abused by the pass-rush, then it's anyone's guess.
I like our chances, with or without Bell, but no outcome would surprise me with this rivalry game.

Steelers bringing in Ben Tate. Certainly doesn't make anyone feel better about missing Bell but also not the worst they could have done.

Everyone keeps saying the Ravens can't contain Brown... but does anyone seriously think the Steelers can contain Torrey Smith?

wheeler281
12-30-2014, 12:20 PM
Tate will be a good back up to Harris for a week if need be. Harris was awesome in camp and preseason hope it translates if he has to go for a week. I think this shows more the lack of confidence in Archer then it does for Bell missing a week. Archer missing the block that caused the last pick was the last time he saw the field. Kid just put his head down and ducked. Playing scared is not good. He will not be on the team next year.

Huge Ravens fan but also a realist. Ravens have a better chance with Bell out, but this rivalry is always a coin flip. They could play under the exact same conditions 10 times and theyd split 5-5. Thats why every year I look at the schedule I always count the season series against Pitt for a win and a loss.

Ravens are the 6th seed, so if they win they play the Pats since they're the lowest seed.

If Pittsburgh wins the Pats play either Indy(4th) or Cincy(5th) since both are lower seeds then the Steelers(3rd Seed).

All players who are there for less then a certain number of games only get one if they team votes to give them one. So if a guy was their 4 weeks and cut and team wins super bowl players can vote not to give him one. Harris was voted to be given one for all he had done in the past even though he did not play a game for them that year.

very true... Tomlin was handed a Super Bowl caliber team and in a few short years turned it into a non-playoff team.

they did get back this year, but that's in spite of him and not because of him.

not sure if Bell would have made a difference today, but how do you not have a capable back up on the team? horrible.

Tomlin was never ready to be a HC in the NFL. If he did get another job, it's because the NFL tends to pass around mediocre coaches from team to team.

More of a matter of circumstance and match-ups over "momentum".

Yeah, I guess Pees developed some blitzes to get around and through the O-Line, several plays were really broken up by Pernell McPhee and he didn't make the tackle or sack.

Some pretty damn impressive numbers for Harbaugh and the Ravens. They tie GB with the most road playoff wins (10) Harbaugh has made the playoffs 6 out of his first 7 years and never lost a 1st rd game. He's 10-4 tied with Bill Walsh and only behind Tom Flores and Vince Lombardi as far as win % goes

they played well this year. the Steelers were completely one dimensional tonight though. with Bell out it wasn't too hard for Baltimore to game plan against them.

PittYinzer
01-04-2015, 07:25 AM
Not having Bell was a huge loss. If you couldn't see that last night, i don't know what to tell you. Baltimore was able to bring heavy pressure because they knew Pittsburgh couldn't run it. That makes a good defensive coordinator's job that much easier. They called a great game.

Ben's first INT wasn't even on him. He had a TD to Archer called back on a joke call and then gets planted into the ground on the next play. It would have been 30-22 with about 3 minutes left and he's not hurt. Should have left Gradkowski in the rest of that drive though. Ben wasn't right after that hit.

8-114 penalties killed Pittsburgh. Some terrible calls and no calls but also dumb personal fouls and other calls that just kill teams. They didn't have good composure.

Defense couldn't get off the field on 3rd and long all night. Just terrible.

Props to Baltimore. They earned the win, plain and simple.
