From my understanding, Topps did not release a Chrome product for it's last year of NBA production in 2009. It released Topps with randomly inserted Chrome cards, as inserts.
Why did topps go with this approach, and not release their most popular brand of the year? How was chrome inserted into Hobby, Retail and Jumbo?
Thanks

I think their license ended at the end of 2009 so they wouldn't have had time to do a full release.

It really is quite a shame. What a great product 2009-10 Chrome would have been if released on its own.

It's still a great product and very short printed at that.

It is unfortunate for Topps no longer being able to manufacture basketball cards. I think along with Upper Deck Exquisite, Topps Chrome are the best product ever released.

Agreed. For many years, Topps Chrome Boxes were pretty much all I bought on release.. It was a great product for everyone. Good Stuff!!
I'm still looking to pick up a 09-10 Topps Chrome set if anyone has one, lmk

Topps Chrome and Bowman Chrome are the 2 main things I miss from before this current Panini overlord situation.

2009-10 topps jumbo was so loaded for low end product. When was the last time you can pull full tag, letterman or logoman in a low end box?

I guess just not enough time to plan other brands, and just throw them all in one.... Including 100 of each 1/1 laundry tags and logomans! They just wanted to use up everything good they had, and just threw it in their timeless classic Topps brand, with their other monster of a brand Topps Chrome! I think it was a genius move. It made such a great overall product. Then numbering the base chrome was another amazing thing. Very well done. I feel that this year Topps/Chrome was the best ever, even ahead of the famous first release if 1996-97. Or at least that's just my opinion, I LOVE 1996-97, so this is not a biased opinion. I collect the Refractor set of 1996-97. I love them both, but I put the 2009-10 before the first year for overall awesomeness. Those 1/1 laundry tags and logomans are just outstanding, the base chrome is amazing and low numbered, then of course the refractors and gold ref. among other pretty cards. The photography is amazing as usual with Topps. Just an overall product for the ages. No, I do not own "stock" in this product....... Smh. I own one single PC card from it at this point, the Julius Erving Logoman. Would like to some day pickup some singles of the chrome...

The only thing I hate about 09-10 chrome was that all the rookies are not in team uniform but in Tshirts and whited out practice jerseys.

I actually liked the format for the final topps chrome release. It was odd how they skipped some players in the base set and only added some for the x110 base chrome set. Numbering everything was nice, and while they had no rights to the rookies being I their college jerseys, the photos used were tasteful. It would have been worse to airbrush everything. When all is said and done, this final chrome release will carry a premium for many years. With the small much very strong rookie class, that only helps this release.
