View Full Version : A "Would You Rather ...?" for Player Collectors
Every once in awhile, I like to throw this question out for discussion. With the plethora of new outstanding player PCs I've seen around here lately, I thought this was a good time to put it out there again.
Which would you rather have in your collection - a complete rainbow or an entire print run of the same card? And why?

Rainbow. I'm more into quality than quantity. I'm a collector, not a hoarder (most of the time) and I feel like owning an entire print run just keeps cards from others who may want them. And for the record, it would be a print run of at least ten cards I'm talking about here.

i faced this question before and i went for a rainbow that has a 1/1. at least with the 1/1, you get the entire print run =)
it also so happened that I'm trying to complete a set and someone trying to complete a print run is preventing me from completing it =(

Rainbow!!!
Here's why:http://www.blowoutcards.com/forums/basketball/733368-finally-my-complete-2013-14-prizm-rainbow-jeremy-lin.html
It just looks better with all them colors after you complete that rainbow.

I think a rainbow is more desirable. Having several copies of the same card does nothing for me.

Rainbow for sure! At least for 90s player collectors. Most of our guys are retired and aren't getting as many cards. So I'd rather have the rainbow.
However, if I was a player collector of third year guy or something, I might rather have an entire print run. Especially with guys having logoman numbered to /5. It would be pretty awesome to have all the logoman of a certain product.

Rainbow.
I do also look for more of the complete runs, but only if selling really cheap.

Would depend on what the print run was however in most cases I'm going with the rainbow

I'm a huge fan of doubles, so I'd much rather have the full print run than the rainbow.
I appreciate all the responses so far. Anyone have any complete print runs? I know there was a guy over on HK who had the whole print run of a particular Bargnani /10.
As for me: I go back and forth on this. I can't pick one or the other for long. So I go after both. I'm nowhere near anything awesome on print runs (I have two of a /3, three of a /5, three of a /6, 12 of a /25). I do have six or seven rainbows of Chris Douglas-Roberts cards, and they look awesome together. But I would love the look of a complete print run of /10 or so.

Print run, that way if you get tired of collecting that player or if their value skyrockets you can charge whatever you want for that particular card. Plus people complete rainbows all the time. There's literally a "completed rainbow" thread on here multiple times a month. It's a lot more rare to complete a print run on a card.

I've had 4 out of the 5 a couple of times and 20 of 25 once, but never the entire print run.

I've only ever tried for a print run one time. It was with my Rice autos pc and this is all the farther I got:

But I'd be straight up lying if I said it didn't feel much better to complete this:
