The appraiser quoted 1million as the recommended insurance value, because the old lady wanted to keep the collection. I'm guessing an appraisal for sale/auction would have been lower.

What somethings value is compared to what you can insure it for are two completely different things

true, but they are the original 1/1s as they've never been seen anywhere else. The $1M is far-fetched, but at a high-end auction I think 50%-75% of that is a real possibility with the other stuff included.

I think it's worth way more than $1 Million dollars honestly. Think about it, the Honus Wagner is worth like $1-$2 Million. These are all 1/1's and the first known baseball cards ever. Not to mention all the other stuff she has with the cards.

And the amount the insurer would pay out is a third number.

I honestly think the 1 mill valuation was quite low, but she just said that's for insurance purposes. One of the first, if not first photographic baseball cards ever made...perhaps a one off set, and still in great condition minus the trimming. The letter and photographs just top it off. Some wealthy collector (gretzky, sheen) would probably clear low to mid 7 figures on that collection easy.

lol yea I caught that...I think she was scared to overvaluate them also, as the lady was quite old and she didn't want a potential heartattack on the set
