Hey everyone!

I had been hearing quite a lot about these boards from guys on Youtube, so I figured I would give them a shot. I left all the old forums I was on, well, just became inactive on them because I was sick of all the drama and scammers and the like.

I was just browsing threads on here looking at pulls people have been getting from this years Allen and Ginter. I stumbled upon the Allen and Ginter Cut Auto thread.. and have to say I am already disappointed with this forum. It is just 2 or 3 members going back and forth filling the thread with useless posts irrelevant to the topic the thread was started for. This is the exact reason I left forums about a year ago, I finally come back.. and see the same exact immaturity here.

Anyone wanna turn my first impression around and give me a warm welcome and point out the highlights of these boards?

Also.. I am mkohlmeier2 on youtube and blogtv. I collect the Chicago Cubs but am not really buying at the moment. I have many autographs and jersey cards that will be for sale when I have time to scan them all in.

Thanks for reading!

If you use the Ignore function enough, it makes it bearable

I'm am brand new too and I have the complete opposite assessment. Maybe it's because I came over from Beckett and their forum is almost a joke at this point. You want to talk about ridiculous threads and comments, take a peek over there sometime. I have just been lurking for the past two weeks and read many of the posts and find many of them quite interesting and informative. One thing you do have to remember about forums though, most people use them and communicate on them as they would in person and try to have a conversation on them. Not that I agree with that but they do. But if you can block out the static I think you'll be happy with some of the different threads on here.

Welcome to the forum! I find this forum very helpful and a great place to meet fellow collectors.

Wish I could use the ignore function but I cant :)

It really depends on what info your looking for. Some threads are really bad, others can have exactly what you want to read. Then again as with most forums because they are open, you need to be able to figure out who's full of bull and who the quiet ones are (as those tend to be the ones to listen to since post count means nothing to someones seniority, maturity, knowledge, and/or experience).

Welcome!

Hey Guys,

Im new as well, and I used to also be a member on the old Beckett forums, and left when they made a change to the format, and personally it kills me. Its terrible. Ive also been lurking for a few weeks, and Blowout looks awesome.

And holy COW, what the hell is up with the prices? Its going to be hard to support my LCS when he charges $115 for Elite, and I can save 20 bucks on here!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone

First of all, let me say hello to all the new board members. I hope each of you enjoys the forum as much as I have. My suggestion if you do not like the format/discussions on this board, is that you find a different board. I have been a member here for several years, and I do not think many things will change (which doesnt bother me). Keep in mind that there are many forums out there, and they may suit you better. I do not think you find the "perfect" forum, but this one is pretty good in my opinion.

Welcome to the board, if you are looking for good trading and power-crazy mods go to SCF. If you are looking for a board that seems useless, go to FCB. Otherwise stay here :)!

I am also new, but quite frankly- who cares about your assessment? Your intentions are to have the members of this site entertain the hobby to your specifications? You're in for a rude awakening- life doesn't revolve around you in the real world or the internet.....

Hello and welcome to the new members that posted in this thread. Most of the guys on here are mature and you will find a ton of very, very useful information. As some of the posters above me have said, you just have to read the forum for a few days, interact with us, and you will quickly filter out what to ignore.

Unfortunately, there are a few bad apples, but there are those on every forum. I only joined here in May, but have already made great connections. I am not sure of your backgrounds, but there are people on here with similar backgrounds and they will find you and you build a relationship. Cheesy? Yes, but it happens.

Enjoy and I look forward to getting to know you.

Just tossing my two cents in to the pile, I've found different value and uses for several of the boards on the web.

I do 95% of my trading on The Bench, as it's the friendliest I've found and cleanest with regard to the low number of disputes, relatively low number of morons causing disputes as well as general atmosphere and maturity level. But at the same time, how friendly a board is to a member is directly proportional to the courtesy that poster extends to fellow members (except for SCF, where there is always some random moron ready to rip into you for collecting someone they've never heard of or not wanting to trade your cards for their junk).

SCF easily has gone the most "corporate" while at the same time, after inheriting the largest portion of the Beckett Message Board refugees, the most chaotic. And they easily have the most annoying mods. The pre-Beckett/pre-sale-of-the-site mods (that are still around) are great, but most of the newer mods are a pain. Due to the refugees, you also get a large proportion of useless threads, people who can't follow the rules to post in the correct forums, or just generally can't get along. I mostly just use SCF for posting and helping people with general questions about card indentification (usually just looking stuff up in my Beckett Almanac or Standard Catalog) and about the hobby in general. They used to be less strict about posting links, now they border on taking the approach that they're the only board on the web and how dare you mention anyone else. They do have a formal relationship with Tuff Stuff, and are have added a ton of features to the site in the last two years, but all those features just make the place a mess to navigate.

Freedom Cardboard has some great discussions on variations (mostly hold-overs from the better Beckett discussions) and oddballs, and has a few really good, knowledgeable posters (though there is a LOT of overlap between all the boards). I just use them for the discussions, I don't trade there.

Blowout Cards Forums I like because, outside the trading threads, there are some really good discussions, there is the direct interaction from Blowout Cards with respect to announcements (naturally), and the CheckOutMyCards staff are more active here than anywhere else. I really wish the folks that run Sportlots would be that active in the online hobby community. I do see lots of trades going bad here, so I just don't trade here and save that action for The Bench. But as just a general hobby message board, I really like it here. Love the eBay bad seller/bidder posts and how open the place is with regard to subject matter and discussion of other sites. I don't see people getting banned for mentioning that there might be another board or another online store somewhere in the world. The threads might wander off on tangents sometimes, but the conversation is definitely livelier here than elsewhere.

Beckett & Topps boards, I don't even bother.

Trading Card Central, I don't use them purely because of that stupid little box they put their message board in that is like trying to read posts on my Blackberry. if they'd let the board expand with the browser, I might give it a try.

I guess overall, I'm just suggesting you try to evaluate the board on ALL of its merits and not get completely turned off by one or two bad aspects.

I am brand new to this forum and I've learned enough here in 2 weeks to make me feel like I never left the hobby 5 years ago. I've been intrigued by the new Bowman and Ginter products and the type of buzz they are generating with Strasburg, and I missed the days of buying boxes and looking for big hits, so this is exactly what I needed. The box break posts are awesome. Seeing those Ginter blasters getting some major hits has me excited for the cases I ordered, and I would know nothing about the product if I didn't find this forum. Just ignore the pointless posts and spend time viewing what is relevant to you.

I myself am brand new here as of yesterday as well. Been out of card collecting for 10+ years since I was a kid. Now i'm thinking of getting back into it and I hear group/box breaks are a good way to start if you don't have massive amounts of money to invest. Other forums I recently have been reading on don't nearly have the amount of successful case/box group breaks that this site appears to have so that is appealing. Collecting is a completely different ballgame then it used to be so I have learned a lot watching box breaks and reading on this site. Definately found much of it useful.

I've never done true case or box breaking on my own but I am looking for a small group of people that may be interested so if you read this and are involved in anything like that, please let me know.

First off, welcome to Blowoutcards.

Now. The board member that just posted above me (ilovethelakings) is a great reason for you to stay on here. He's a great person. He gives everybody nothing but respect.

Anyways, glad to have you on here and I hope you find your way to posting on this wonderful site.

Have a good one.

Auction - welcome to the boards! Yep, I too felt like I had learned enough in my first two weeks that I felt as though I never left the hobby in the mid nineties.

Hey, man. Welcome to the boards! I too was out for many, many years. I would say about 14 or so. I jumped right in and started interacting with the folks here and in my short stay thus far, I have participated in a few group breaks already and, yes, they are a great way to get into the hobby. Be careful though - the money adds up quickly!

Enjoy!
