View Full Version : What to do with Dri Archer?

I'm not a Pittsburgh fan by any means....AT ALL!!, however, I am a fan of players that I think have exceptional talent and Dri Archer is one of them.

But realistically, what kind of future can he really have with the Steelers? He's behind Bell for Cripes' sake(WAAAAY behind), so what kind of career is he going to have there?

I just like the guy because he's slick as hell and fast! REAL FAST! But it's become pretty clear that he's only going to ride the pine there and do a little return work, maybe get a few carries on gimmick plays.

What says the Steeler nation? Will they keep him on and manufacture plays for him, or will he just fade away and be cut by mid season, if he's even still on the roster by week 1? Will he hold any significance on the Steelers or even anywhere in the NFL at all? I just legitimately like he guy and want to see him succeed in some aspect of the game.

He's super small, so who knows how long he can last or be effective. Other than that, I don't know much about him.

Bell is my favorite player in the league, but I also really like archer. I use the steelers in this years madden, and you can run the ball every play if you want just by switching them every now and then.

I just don't see Archer having much of a future in Pittsburgh.

He absolutely stinks, one of the worst draft picks the Steelers have made in recent memory.

He will never be able to pass protect. Was supposed to return kicks but can't do that either.

Could be like Darren Sproles. Meaning there could be a place for him to have success but definitely not as an everydown back.

Yup. I don't see him making it out of camp in the summer. He wont be in the league in couple years even if he gets another chance.

too bad madden doesn't translate to the nfl

His pose on some cards are pretty funny, I guess we will all remember him for that.

Any knowledgeable Steelers fan would agree with this 100%. He was a terrible pick, just like Rainey the year before. Absolute waste of a 3rd rounder.

Agreed! bad pick! Way to small and we could have been using that pick to take a corner or safety.

combine superstar, I think he can be a Sproles like player. Steelers on the other hand have no real use for him.

I'm really curious what he would be like in a read option offense.

Nail on the head. He was selected 90% for his speed. He's super fast but he's tiny. As he said he just can't block... Can't return kicks... A sharp wind and he falls over.

The best he can ever be is a Darren Sproles.

Put him on the Saints, Eagles, or Patriots (creative offenses that can use unique talents) and you've got a heck of a weapon. Or on the Cowboys who can open up mile-wide holes and get him to the second level where his speed and agility would have him untouched on his way to the endzone.

Aside from seeing him on these teams, I don't think he'll have much of a future. I'm still holding onto one of his 1/1s just because his college highlight video was the only one I've ever had to pick my jaw up off the floor after watching. I'm really rooting for Archer.

I had hope, and trusted that we picked him with good reason. I haven't seen ANY of that on the field.
As of now, he's useless.

Kent State Football.....Antonio Gates is the best thing to come from Kent and he never even played football there. Pretty sad when a guy who played basketball is better than the guys who played football. Their program is "not good". The four years I went there, the team probably won three games. Not a college team I would suggest drafting from.

That's pretty much how I figured this thread would go.

He's just too damn small to do any good. Not sure what they were thinking on draft day.

This might have been what they were thinking.....and I don't blame them.

Loved watching him when I was at Kent State but I was afraid his size would be his downfall. Maybe turn into a slot guy? other than that he will probably just be a special teams standout

Well that would be pretty good if you ask most people. Sproles has had a nice long career and has been a pretty dynamic multidimensional player.

Jack Lambert is the best player to ever come out of Kent State. Hall of Famer and one of the best linebackers to ever play in the NFL.

Never even knew he went to Kent. Ah, well one good football player every 30 years is pretty good.

James Harrison was pretty awesome for the Steelers. Josh Cribbs was a Pro Bowler for the Browns.

Julian Edelman is pretty good.

Kent State produces some good players here and there, just like a lot of MAC schools do.

There was a similar thread - maybe not here but somewhere like this..I recall..
on Antonio Brown in 2010.
All of the so called experts said he's FAST but not big enough... blah blah blah...

I was fortunate enough to pull the Certified Dri Archer 1/1 Black patch auto...
So i guess I hope he does well...
Ironically, I also pulled a Antonio Brown 1/1 rookie back in 2010 so who knows..
