Just wondering if anyone thinks a subscription to this is really worth it? I always get close to buying then thing.. "this could be a card. go back to ebay".

Benefits?

I enjoy the magazine very much...for the price, it is great along with the promo cards...I have had my subscription for quite a few years now and would currently never think of cancelling. Even my friends that come over and don't even collect, go through it...

My father also finds it great bathroom reading material when he's over....lol

It depends on what you are looking for. . .

Passionate folks write the articles, so that's cool -- and there are promos so if you are into them it's kind of a no brainer. . . Lots of advertising so if you are looking for dealers that's a good place to find dealers who don't do much selling online. . .

There generally isn't a lot of 'news' in the magazine as most of the news hits the web long before the publishing deadline. . .

The price guide . . . well eBay is a much better price guide if you are dealing on the internet, and Allender's site has better checklists. . .

Webjon is right on the mark. :)!
I buy NSU every so often for some good light reading about upcoming card sets and what ever collecting topic that is highlighted on the cover.
If I'm looking for looking up prices, I'll check eBay first and if it's not in the completed auctions then I'll look in the Beckett Sports Card Monthly in their non-sport section before checking NSU's price guide.

If you are planning on making a trip down to the Philly Non-Sport Card Show in May, you can pick up all the recent back issues for 1/2 price. Typically, I only buy the magazine for the promos and that is the way I get them. Cost me about the same as buying the one promo plus shipping on ebay, and I get a couple extra promos and a magazine to read. I don't think I'd ever go in on a subscription though.

In fact, I'm curious how much longer it will make sense to print the magazine verses doing an online subscription and just sending out promo cards to the subscribers every month.

Years ago, I bought some magazines locally, but aren't more available in local stores. So I had a subscription. After I read some stupid nonsense editorial attacking the collectors and blessing the manufacturers stupid ideas. I decide to buy at least 1 magazine by year. In special anyone that has some interesting promo.

Some days ago, I was thinking to get another subscription.

Agree.

For some cards. It is true, but the price guide is a good tool for starters in the hobby.

It is too bad that NSU is still looking the outside world from a key hole. The Non-Sport cards are back in scene, but it rare see promotion from NSU or people speaking/writing about it.

Can anyone give some examples, or maybe scans of some cool promo's that came out of these?

You can go to the NSU website and click the back issues link on the lefthand side. This will give you a list of volumes by year. Pick a year and the link will provide a list of all the promos found in each issue that year. Then just search eBay for the ones you are interested in.

There are also hundreds listed on eBay -- search NSU Promo in the non-sport section.
