Hey guys. I am curious to find out who everyone thinks is among the best values in basketball collecting today.
I am talking about guys who not only don't get the hobby respect they should, but also have a chance of having their potential realized.
It can be from any era, really. Current stars not getting noticed enough (i.e. James Harden a few years ago), retired players (i.e. Penny Hardaway when he was forgotten but the nostalgia hadn't hit yet), or youngsters ready to make it big.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Still Harden, really. And, frankly, while he may not be a franchise player, Chris Bosh hasn't gotten any love for a long time now.

Everyone really turned on Blake Griffin for some reason. His stuff is still really affordable. He's an excellent player, on an excellent team, in a big market. He does a lot of tv commercials and has a pretty big online footprint, he's improved his game quite a bit and he's still a dynamic dunker. Perennial all-star, great passer for a big man, very efficient. I don't see why he's fallen off so much in the hobby,

Tim Duncan.
Arguably top-10 player of ALL-TIME, his stuff is basically dirt cheap compared to just the mortal star players of today.

All true statements but he's kind of a d*ck in plain english, at least from what I've heard.. and he's peaked already as far as individual stats, for the most part.. I don't think there's a lot more upside to his game than what's already been realized.

Not just James Harden of a few years ago, James Harden right now. His cards are going for less than half of what Curry's are and at worst they're equals.

Having met Blake, he was nothing but nice to everyone I saw him interact with. Now James Harden and Chris Paul on the other hand......

McGrady and Vince Carter.
The nostalgia factor will kick in after they get into HOF. They both blew up during the YouTube era

I agree with Harden. If you're looking at current players, there is no better value. The fact that there are Hassan Whiteside and Rudy Gobert base autos that are almost as much as a perennial all star and front running mvp candidate tells you all you need to know. The hobby is weird. Very weird.

People in the hobby just doesn't like Harden.. maybe it's just how he carries himself, doesn't seem like a very friendly person. http://www.blowoutcards.com/forums/basketball/833638-very-little-hobby-love-harden.html

He's a little weird and while I recognize his talent I just don't like his game. He's one of those guys who flops (which I hate) and it seems like he's always at the freethrow line. Plus he's also one of the handfull of young NBA players that dresses like Steve Urkel and calls it fashion. I don't know if it's fair to call him a hipster but there's really nothing about him that I can relate to and get behind.

I agree. Harden can be quite frustrating to watch. He 'seems' slow and lackadaisical at times, but it's ridiculously effective. It's almost like he lulls his opponents to sleep before hitting them with a jab step or crossover. It's not sexy, but his numbers are pretty wild. Not sure about him off the court, haven't heard that much about him. Not like he's known for getting in trouble, though.

I don't know too much about Jeff Teague but I'd say he has some potential in the hobby.

Teague is another good pick. Basically everyone on the Hawks. They're not a sexy team, and thus you can still pick up basically any of their starters low end rookie autos for peanuts. That could change if they make a deep playoff run, but even I think that's doubtful.

Harden, Drummond, Monroe, Teague, Conley, Randolph, both Gasols

Hawks players probably have the best upside if they can make a playoff run.

Not an all star yet but isaiah thomas. Once goran leaves, he will have a shot to take over the suns.

Reggie Jackson... Next year he'll get a new team (hopefully) and have his time to shine. And I, for one, don't think he'll disappoint.

I couldn't agree more. Another MVP-caliber talent and his stuff is relatively cheap compared to his game. His stuff will skyrocket if they win it all this year

I started to type names and I like the NBA too much. I could go on and on...My favorites that are not complete dark horses would be Bledsoe, Monroe, Harden, Bosh, Big Al could go on and on but will stop there. Big Al and Bosh may be on the way down as far as realization but they are just so damn cheap for two of the best.

Westbrook, Harden, bledsoe, and Klay.
I could never list bosh because he had 0 points in game 7 of the finals, but maybe bosh I guess if you like guys like that.

Not an all star and it's a shame, but it makes the value all the better. Buy Kahwi now or regret it. Last time I checked Finals MVP is a lot more valuable then the all star vote. Kahwi will be an all star in a year or two.

He sells nicely, so I didn't include him.

Ricky Rubio? He´s completely underrated... his injuries doesn´t help, but he has clearly improved his shot and is one of the best passers in the league, when he is healthy 2nd or 3rd in steals and a decent rebounder.
See him perform in an allstar game sure must be fun.

Aside from a few posts this thread is pretty much "insert player I collect" and tell us why he should be worth more.
Anyways, I think Klay Thompson should sell for more. His cards were extremely undervalued prior to his 52 point game, but they still have a ways to go especially when compared to his teammate, Steph Curry.

So most frequently named seem to be:
Harden: I agree that he is as good/better than Curry.... so is Harden under appreciated or Curry over appreciated?
Westbrook: Can he ever get out from under the shadow of Durant?
Thompson: Season PPG totals of 12.5, 16.6, 18.4 and 22.1. Doesn't get a ton of assists, rebounds, steals or blocks. Can he ever get to the point where he's a top 5 scorer in the league?

Makes sense to me. If I think a player is undervalued I go out and buy his cards.
Undervalued??

I completely agree with this. We share some mutual acquaintances - we have been out partying in the same group together and been to the same events (wedding, birthday, general night out, etc.) and I have never seen him be anything but respectful and nice.

If Jeff Teague was playing in a bigger market, he would be one of the hottest commodities in the hobby. He's in ATL so he gets very little love.
