I think some of the guys in this thread either haven't watched that many dunk contests or have lowered standards/expectations. That's fine though, but I think majority that were live in the crowd were underwhelmed, and you could tell by the overall reactions.

Best dunk contest since '08. I hadn't seen any of Lavine's youtube stuff so I didn't know what to expect from him except looking like he's floating on air. Dipo was good, if he had completed the dunks on the first try it would of been crazy.

I agree that these comps are not as good as the and1 and other professional dunkers....If all you want is the best dunkers in the world watch and1. This is a collection of NBA players who get paid to ball not just dunk. Of course professional dunkers are going to do better dunks it is all they get paid to do. I get annoyed of all the people complaining too. It is what it is just enjoy it. If you want bigger more creative dunks than the and1 guys, I am sorry it is not going to happen. Ever... these guys don't just practice dunks all day every day they are busy playing NBA ball. Even vince carter type dunks are not enough to excite people anymore. Plumblee did an off the back of the backboard alley oop dunk like the one carter did and people went bonkers back in the day...Plumblee does it an nobody even notices. Until someone does a front flip dunk or something crazy like that I guess the dunk comp just sucks.

And you have to realize that this is a NBA dunk contest, not some random youtube one. You have to pull the dunk in front of MILLIONS fans within 3 tries. This is not youtube video that you can try as many as you want just to get it right.

And this is not a contest that only serves a group of 100 in Brooklyn playground and you got NOTHING to lose. If you don't make any dunk within 3 tries, your NBA name/brand is damage. Hence, you see players go for dunk that they can make 80% of the time rather than some sick 720 between the leg twice dunk that you can make it less than 10%.

Seriously, instead of calling in BO, why not post your own dunk here so that we can judge you.

Let's completely ignore the fact that these are professional athletes paid millions of dollars for their physical and athletic gifts.

Oh, and the dunk competition was, is and will always be a voluntary contest. Nobody forced any of these guys to participate. So that whole 'it could destroy their brand' spiel is a weak attempt at justifying lack of creativity.

But yeah. Since none of us get paid millions for having NBA game and 40 inch verticals, I guess that means we can't be entitled to expect some creativity. Sounds legit.

I suppose since none of us are paid professional analysts that 95 percent of the threads created on here should be deleted, and opinions on players or teams be muted. lol.

Great weekend so far, was kind of upset that the stars really didnt turn out, and many of the top athletes as well.

Hopefully they make up for it tomorrow night.

Met Paul Milsap, Anthony Davis and Drummond today. Drummond was signing autographs at the Sprint store on 34th, funny thing is that it was not advertised anywhere until we passed right outside the store and the door man mentioned it. Literally just walked in met him, he signed two posters and I left lol NO LINE, but they didn't want anyone taking pics.

This is all dunks I've seen random dudes upload to youtube. Guys have done lavines dunk jumping over someone and bringing the ball from under their legs not behind the back. I'll give it to lavine, he's making it watchable at least. overall this event hasn't been worth watching since vc destroyed it. I tuned in for the 3 point contest which was as good as advertised.

Oladipo's first dunk was the best of the night.

Lavine can get up, for sure, but he did way too much between the legs. No creativity.


Three point contest was pretty legit. Crazy that Klay choked at the end.

I want more of the Gerald Green blowing out the candle, Josh Smith in a Dominique jersey, and the Dwight Howard/Nate Robinson "rivalry" more than any of this.
