B.P.O. stands for Bazarevich's Push Overs, it was a set featuring players picked out by Sergei Bazarevich. Similar to Kemp's Slam Dunk All-Stars, Michael Jordan's Flight Team, etc...

Bazarevich was invited by Fleer/Skybox international to pick out players that he went up against and the rest, "Push Overs" is obviously because every one in the league during his tenure was a push over in comparison.

I spoke to the former head of design / development from the now defunct Fleer company and he confirmed this. I only bring you legitimate information, so whatever else gets posted you can scoff at.

I actually have no idea either (shame on me). It has all first through third year players on it though so it was targeting younger guys in the league. Might be able to use that to decipher it? Maybe it was intentionally cryptic? I dunno.

Great question! I feel like I used to know the answer, but as the saying goes that was many, many beers ago.

From Beckett.com...

Randomly inserted in series two packs at one in six, this 15-card set features the game's brightest young stars. Card fronts feature gold-foil stamping against a black background.

I always assumed it was a play on IPO from the world of stocks... the launch / first sale of stock by a company to the public... with the B replacing the I for Basketball. When I stop and think about it, it doesn't make a ton of sense. But beckett's definition of it being the games brightest young stars would kind of point to an IPO-type of definition. Good question though! I wonder if there ever was on actual answer, like on the sell sheet, or if it was always just referred to as simply B.P.O.

I looked at some of the backs and based on that I figure the 'O' might be Opinion.
