UA put an insane amount of money on the table to try and get Durant so it wouldn't suprise me if they put in a crazy bid for this as well.

Panini. They pretty much are starting a monopoly on the sports card world, why not start in sports apparel too. Plus, how easy would it be for them to get more fake jersey's for their cards...

They announced yesterday as well that Nike extended its deal with the NFL for 3 more years. Don't know if that would affect their likelihood of going after the NBA.

I'm not sure how Nike wouldn't be outbidding at all costs on this...

I can see UA coming strong with a compression shirt/shorts/socks line for each team like they did with the super heroes. They have a great shot at the contract.

I have a buddy who works for a college sports program in equipment that is sponsored by Nike. Ever since Nike got the NFL deal, turn around times on uniform orders have gone from about 1 month to 4 months + unless it is a special rush case or you're Oregon.

If they are already bogged down with NFL and college stuff, I don't see how they will be able to handle bringing on the NBA. Doesn't mean they wont try tho. Seems like UA is poised to land its first major sports league...

Nike is very smart if they don't bid high on this NBA contract. They don't even need NBA jersey/cloth for marketing. Nike basketball shoes are like 95% in the market already.

In fact, Nike can play the offer so that UA needs to top it EVEN higher to the point that UA to make less profit.

Lastly, who wear NBA jerseys as street cloth? I would buy a baseball, football, hockey, soccer jersey to the sport bar. But I don't see myself wearing Lebron jersey to local. I would look like I just got off the basketball court and forgot to change.

I take it you haven't been to many urban areas lately?

UA will win it. They may not have the greatest net worth, but they have probably the most name draw and financial backing of any other sports apparell company out there and are starting to expand to other avenues including shoes (the curry's are actually very very nice basketball shoes).

Competition is healthy for all markets. It helps create better quality products and prices. Lord knows how bad Nike's retro release quality continues to get as the years progress...

I actually agree with you for once. I am a huge fan of Nike as well as UA but I think UA will win it.

I'd be surprised if UA won it. They are 1/10th the size of Nike (globally)

I could see that happening in the future but that would be a total contradiction to the Jerry West Logoman which hangs supreme as the iconic symbol for the NBA, currently....
