What are some players in the collecting world that just don't get much hobby love these days? The first that comes to mind is Gary Sheffield. Monster numbers, but the guy just doesn't pull much attention.

Jim Thome was of the same ilk. He never had much cardboard traction.

Vlad Guerrero's stuff has hit basement level prices the past couple of years which still (happily) blows my mind. He has a few items that still pull decent money ('95 Sp auto, '95 BB Refractor) but man, his autographs are dirt cheap, his rookies are available for next to nothing, even his rare 90s inserts don't bring too much.

Frank Robinson's cards are ridiculously affordable. He's considered one of the top 15-20 players in league history and yet...his cards don't sell for much of anything.

Tom Seaver boggles my mind as well. His rookie pulls a ton of coin but beyond that...

Eric Sogard.

Sonny's last start, he couldn't pull a diving play (not an easy one, but still). Gf and I start yelling, "You can't even do this?? WTF USELESS" etc. etc.

Sorry, not really relevant to the OP...

U can get autos of these all time greats for the same price as allot of current moderate stars.

Also agree w Frank Robinson. Hugely undervalued.

For type of cards I think the old Topps combo cards are still way undervalued as are some of the league leader cards.

These are good choices. The amount of HOF autos that I've purchased for $20 or under is staggering. Heck, both Kaline and Brock can be had under $10 without trying all that hard.

This is definitely the best example provided so far of an extremely underrated player. He's quietly putting together a HOF career but people don't seem to notice.

Check ebay completed on Thome. The past year there has been some great movement on him.

You're new, should have seen how we used to be before the honeymoon. We actually disagree quite a bit now but before we could never get off the phone because each of us wanted to be the last one to say I love you.

Brooks robinson, lou brock, alan trammel, adrian beltre, frank robinson, david cone, lots of 80s players, rollie fingers, tons of hofers you can get for next to nothing.

I'd have to disagree. The last couple seasons Matt Cain has pitched like a fifth starter and he's getting paid $20 million to do so. Before the 2013 season he was a very effective pitcher and possibly undervalued but I don't know what his cards were selling for back then.

We may be talking about different points.
Performance wise, yes he's been hurt the last year and a half or so. Still TBD if he will get back to the perfect-game Matt Cain of old. Pitchers once they get hurt, their prices do drop precipitously.

The reason I said Cain- compare his prices to any 'rising star' pitcher like Strasburg who have not achieved anything and already been hurt, or a guy like Lincecum who is equally as ineffective than Cain now and still probably commands 2x the prices. Out of all the SF Giants, only Posey and to an extent Bumgarner this past offseason has gotten much hobby love. Put any of these guys on the Yankees/Red Sox and their prices instantly double or triple

First I gotta say I am not a White Sox fan nor do I own any Jose Abreu Chrome autos.

But His Chrome autos to me are undervalued. I know he only have 1 year under his belt but he had a monster season. Better than most vets. Comparing him to Bryant who have 0 history in the bigs.

Vlad Guerrero. His career numbers are downright gaudy and you can still pick up most of his patch autos for under 20 bucks shipped.

Well Strasburg is a hard throwing strikeout pitcher and strikeout pitchers command the big bucks in this hobby just like power hitters command high prices. Matt Cain has never had a 200+ strikeout season and while a 7.5 SO/9 ratio isn't all that bad, it doesn't compare to Strasburg's 10.3 SO/9 ratio.

As for Tim Lincecum, while he hasn't performed any better than Matt Cain recently he was one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball from 2008-2011, every year finishing top 10 in Cy Young voting and winning 2 Cy Young awards. Matt Cain hasn't won any Cy Young awards and only twice finished top 10.

One fantastic and steamy night does not make us pals. It's not you, it's me. You're a swell guy but I don't want to tie you down. You deserve better. I have a lot more growing up to do before I知 ready for something like this. I love you but I知 not in love with you. I wish I壇 met you five years from now, I知 just not ready for this yet. I love you enough to want something better for you than what I can give.
