From everything I've seen, 3b is a no go, his defense is atrocious. May not even matter, his bat seems to have holes as well. The coded things his manager and GM have been saying are anything but kind or optimistic.

First off his last name isnt Thomas it's Tomas... He'll be splitting time between 3 and RF... Looks like he will be with the dbags

I'd be saying nice things too if I spent that money on him.

I don't see any time at 3b unless they want to issue free base runners. He has been booting even the easy ones which is why he was moved to the OF where even there he is a net negative as a defender.
"Based upon interviews of rival scouts and executives, nobody believes Diamondbacks third baseman Yasmany Tomas can remain in the infield, writes Joel Sherman of the New York Post".

Reading comprehension isn't just a phrase. I haven't seen anyone say anything nice about him. The team hasn't outright said the signing was a mistake but it isn't very hard to read between the lines. In fact, I can't remember a time when the manager and the front office were as openly critical of a new player.
” After committing $68.5MM for Tomas, the Diamondbacks now appear to be quietly considering having Tomas start the season in the minors, although they offer guarded praise for his abilities. “I really believe that a number of us in the organization believe that he could hit,” says La Russa. “If we were short and he had to play, at the end of the year he would survive.”

damnit. Wish I'd read this thread (or done any homework on him whatsoever) sunday...before I drafted him for my fantasy team. Of course I don't really care where he plays as long as he is in the majors and produces.
wonder who my 3B backup is...
/me wanders away.

Most of the talk I've heard has him starting in the minors, sorry. If he can improve his OF defense and fix the holes in his swing, Trumbo will get traded and he'll be called up. That is a lot of if's.

I have him on my bench in dynasty baseball, so hopefully he will be alright...

Yeah, I didn't draft him this year. I think after Abreu last year, everyone is hoping for a repeat of that with Tomas. Hoping he's more than a Dayan Viciedo-esque kind of player.

Well the D-Backs are notoriously bad at signing free agents so I'd assume this would be the case for international free agents as well.

Unfortunately, I took him as my #1 draft pick this year. :(

That was a terrible idea? Why did you do this?

He will likely be dispatched to the minors. He's had issues with fielding, batting, maturity, etc.

Yeah, that was a huge waste of a #1 pick. I mean, Spring Training isn't a great indicator of how well a player performs in the majors (Kershaw was 0-3 with a 9.20 ERA last Spring...he ended up winning the MVP) but taking an international player who doesn't have one at-bat in the majors is a HUGE reach. I mean it's perfectly understandable if you were to take a risk on him in the 5th round or later.

We drafted before spring training games started and I bought into all of the hype. :( I only have every kept 1 #1 draft pick on my team in over 10 years of play, so obviously I suck at picking that first round! :)!
