Trout gets at least 7 points per home run. He's going to hit at least 30 home runs assuming he doesn't get hurt. Kershaw gets 7 per win and there is no way he will win 30 games.

The only other points Kershaw could get are for strikeouts. I think 250 would be a high guess for him, but let's go with that. He also will lose at least 60 points from walks and earned runs, and that is also if he has his best season. That leaves Trout needing 190 more points. He is going to get at least 100 runs and 90 RBI's, which gives him 130 points (not counting the ones I already included in the HR calculation). That leaves 60 points from hits and walks, which he should easily double and most likely triple.

The only way Kershaw gets more points is if Trout gets hurt. Even if Trout has the worst year of his career and Kershaw has the best, I don't see any way Kershaw would get more points.

His Troutness. Even if Complete Games and/or Shutouts were in the picture. Trout will contribute every day.

Trout, how is this even a question? The other option is an amazing pitcher but is only involved in 20% of his teams games and that's if he doesn't miss starts like last season when he was hurt

To the people saying Kershaw doesn't play every day and shouldn't be picked obviously have no clue what they are talking about.

NORMAL POINTS LEAGUE 2014

Clayton Kershaw- 676 POINTS
Mike Trout- 479 POINTS

26 weeks in a sesaon and it's weekly scoring.

Kershaw averaged 26 Points per week
Trout averaged 18 Points per week

Many people do not play in points leagues. There is also a whole sub forum for fantasy sports.

The OP's league is a points league so I responded accordingly.

I think a more proper response would be the choice between a pitcher over a batter.

If pitchers points end up falling off less compared to Kershaw than batters compared to Trout, then you pick Trout and pick up another pitcher later.

I don't know the statistics so Kershaw may be the right choice. I think we just need a larger pool of information than head to head stats.

I never said Kershaw has to be the pick. Simply stating the people saying there's no way he should be picked because of the amount of games he plays is clueless.

Wait, so there are no points for stolen bases? If not, then you could make a reasonable argument for Cabrera over Trout.

Kershaw is an easy 2nd overall pick. Trout is 1st.

I disagree.

I disagree.

I'm not saying I would, but it's arguable. Other than runs and triples, which categories are Trout a slam-dunk to be significantly better than Cabrera in? Meanwhile I would probably bet on Cabrera for doubles, and most of other categories are probably close to tossups.

The argument I'd make though, is Trout is young, and doesn't have the injury history. But yeah, I guess it could just be preference, i.e. Angels v. Tigers fan.

Trout, easily.

Let other people waste picks on pitching in the top ten.

The pitching depth is way deeper than any other position.

Sure, I'd buy that. But it's not like Cabrera is super old - he'll only be turning 32 this year. He's past his prime, but he'll still put up great numbers.

I had the second overall pick in my fantasy draft and I grabbed Kershaw...when looking to see how much points every player was worth (based on our point system) Kershaw was far and away the most valuable player, worth over 100 points more than Trout last year.

However, if I had the first pick of the draft I would have likely gone with Trout.

Take Stanton.

Then get Pujols in 5th round. He will have better season than Trout, IMO.
