That made me laugh for some reason.

Arenado is no longer a hidden gem. He is looking like a big time player. I will make a bold prediction and say he leads all of MLB in doubles this year. He should be a 25 homerun guy also. Dude plays a mean third base on top of his batting skills.

I have him in my keeper league in the second year. I think he was around a 12th round pick. His 2010 chrome autos are selling really well right now. I have a '13 draft orange refractor at bgs right now that popped this week and got a 9.5.

Colorado's player's are generally not praised for offense due to the fact they could be purly a result of Coors.

Very good point. But I think being it's a small market for baseball has more to do with it. I mean, for 1 he's not hitting at Coors in spring training and 2, nobody has ever bashed a Bo-sox player for hitting in a park that is barely over 300 ft. down both lines.

And he has power outside of Coors to hit 12-15 homers in a season. All everyone is saying is that he would be a far less hitter statistically if he didn't have any games played at Coors. Even the great ones like Todd Helton, Larry Walker, Dante Bichette, Carlos Gonzalez, etc are just not nearly the hitters people think because of their Coors stats

StraWMyerS
04-15-2015, 11:24 PM
Coors doesn't do much for batting avg, aside from the 8-12 deep fly outs that become HRs.

I think performance boosts are more exaggerated due to confidence being higher for hitters and lower for pitchers in Denver. Half of success is 90% mental.

something needs to change if they still want the game to be significant (determining HF advantage in WS) because the current best players need to decide the outcome.

It's amazing how well the Rockies have played the past week (Arenado especially). That bad weather month of May was the weirdest month of weather I've ever seen in CO and I've lived here since 1979. It really affected the team as a whole. The Rockies postponed 4 games last month for bad weather. And another 4-5 of the ones they did play should of been postponed.

Nolan and Puig debuted around the same time. Puig has slowly declined from 2013 and Nolan is getting much, much better. Their prices don't even come close. It's a popularity contest.

Check out the National league stats and see where Nolan stands compared to the other fan favorites. From a hobby standpoint, he is underrated for sure.

It sure is. That is why I am stocking up on Arenado because once he gets the recognition he deserves his prices will be a lot higher.

Probably just a bigger market (for an annually contending team) for Manny, Manny is about a year younger, Manny has much better speed numbers (he can steal bases, Arenado can't), the Coors affect for Arenado (talking only about perception), Machado walks more. They are fairly even in the hitting department and Machado has him in quite a few other categories. The only glaring thing Arenado has on Manny is power numbers with a 30+ edge in slugging percentage. Both are really good and will be fun to watch mature together as elite defensive 3rd basemen with pop in their bats.

Arenado has been much better than Puig, here are the numbers since the start of 2014:

Puig - G-175, Avg- .298, R-104, HR-19, RBI- 79, SB-11, WAR-6.1, No GG
Arenado - G-179, Avg- .287, R-99, HR-37, RBI - 119, SB-2, WAR-7.6, 2014 GG

His prices are down due to being in Colorado and Puig in LA.

Ha, cause the Rockies have four total fans. If you pull a 1/1 of Tulo or Cargo, it doesn't even pay for the box in which it was pulled. We had a face of the franchise vote, and not a single person could think of one Rockies fan. It's the same reason that Goldschmidt cards go for the same price as David Wright.

What's unfortunate is most people in this hobby just follow-the-leader. Most collectors just want more money and a nice return on a box they bought. They don't care about most of what they pull, just the heavy-hitters. That, or trying to follow single A ball, hoping to strike it rich collecting some guy who will never hit in the majors. I looked at Arenado's stat line this morning. His BABIP is incredibly low. I'd be curious to see his "hard hit" percentage which would suggest whether that BABIP should spike to normal levels or not. I mean, he is slugging over .600 which is weird, but exceptional given that BABIP.

What? It must pain you to know that the Rockies routinely have higher attendance than the Orioles do (which is not saying much for either team as they are both low). I didn't even know that the Orioles had a fanbase when I lived in northern Virginia for a few years. Revenues of the two teams are also similar, but again nothing to brag about.

Just because there may not be a lot of Rockies fans on this one specific board doesn't mean they don't exist.

I think Machado came up with a lot more hype and at a very young age. When I think of Machado, I just think of a guy who throws bats at people. Arenado is straight beasting and plays the game right.

Last time I checked both the Orioles and Rockies were top 10 teams in attendance overall.

The good attendance problem is huge for the Rockies because the Monforts (owners of the Rockies) don't try hard enough to field a winning team. People go to Coors Field more for the atmosphere and sunshine than they do for the baseball game - it's sad. Why build a winner when the ticket revenue is always gonna be there?

You do realize most people have a favorite team, and their favorite player is typically, on that team. There's only two factors that determine anythings value - Supply, and Demand. If not many people like the team, then not many like the player, and not many want his cards. Thus lowering his demand, which lowers the value.

I wouldn't consider the Houston Astros to have a huge fan base. They were horrible for a long time and I doubt many people were calling themselves Astros fans, but yet a few prospects were selling like crazy. Why? They were hyped up, so other collectors caught on and bought and drove up prices.

I think Nolan was over-looked when he was a prospect. He came into the league and people doubted him. I think a lot has to do with him playing for the Rockies. It's almost like people admit he is good, but won't collect him because he is on the Rockies. They are playing bad, in turn, collectors can't profit off Nolan's cards if they start buying now because the payoff isn't there. He wasn't like a Springer or Correa type prospect. No one that I know of showing off their 75+ card BGS submission of Arenado cards.

The desire to collect Arenado right now isn't that attractive for most. Just my opinion.

He is such an underrated player. Him being in Colorado always gives people an excuse to attribute that to his numbers.....which does help. But at the end of the day he is an amazing player. Machado and Bryant get more love for young third basemen but Arenado is right there in my opinion. Machado and Arenado are the best on defense in the league at third IMO and pretty even on offense. Bryant is definitely below them defensively but has more power.....although I would argue that both Machado and Arenado have closed the gap by their power outputs from last year.

Those power alleys in Coors help everyone that hits there. I bet we see an improved average on the road this year. He looks really confident and is making good contact no matter the park. He's even shown a little more patience this year which would make him an extremely tough out.

In my keeper league(year 3), I have Trout, Arenado, Rizzo, JD Martinez, and Adam Jones. I got Rizzo and Arenado in the original draft in 7th and 8th rounds. They have turned into some studs. I broke it down earlier in the last page. Doesn't mean he isn't still really good player away from Coors (he is). But his numbers are definitely inflated, much like Tulo's were.

And Larry Walker, Ellis Burks, Todd Helton, Vinny Castilla, Charlie Blackmon, Corey Dickerson, Garrett Atkins, Andres Gallaraga, etc..

Plus Tulo's numbers since going to Toronto certainly haven't helped.

I'll check out your breakdown. I remember looking up all the guys that have raked as a Rockie and don't remember any that weren't huge splits

I actually find the splits to be more even, you play better at home. It's not a huge difference, he has 2 more HR's at home than away. Also has 28 hits at home AND away.

In my opinion he is a hell of a player both home and away. Also can flash the leather. :D

Yeah, can't say Coors Field is the reason he's one of the best, if not the best, defensive player in the game.

Imagine an infield with both him and Simmons on the left side...

Coors inflates numbers a ton. This is why you use wRC+, best hitting stat out there, adjusts for park and properly weighs OBP/Slugging.

Arenado is still a legit top player and mvp candidate despite coors.

OPS .1081 at home. .836 on the road.

Even isn't the word I should have used but it's not nearly as bad as you're trying to make it out to be.

You act like he is just an awful Mendoza line hitter away, which he's not. He's obviously better at home but give me a break. It's not like there is this massive difference between home and away. The way you talk is as if he hits .200/ 8 HR/ 30 RBI's a season away and .350/ 30 HR/ 70 RBI's at home. Yes, you are most definitely trying to make this argument inflated more than it is.

Aren't you the one member that bashes almost every player and has threads for them??? :)!

Exactly. I'm not sure what the argument is here. Obviously Arenado has better stats at Coors, but what Rockie hitter doesn't? He's benefited from it, as many have, but him being outside of Coors does not make him any less elite.

Machado and Bogaerts are better hitters at home. KB is a far better hitter away. Wouldn't have even had known that had I not looked it up.

So what?

Some see the glass as half full, some see it as half empty. Dodgers Stadium, Petco and AT&T park are not considered hitter friendly. May be that's why his away stats are not better. Who knows.

Arenado is a great player. He is on a hall-of-fame path. But offensively there is no doubt coors greatly inflates his offensive numbers as they have done for pretty much anyone that has played there.

Yes, the Coors Field argument is invalid. He can hit anywhere.

You still believe this?

OPS at Coors- 1.052
OPS on the road- .788

No player in baseball has benefited more from playing at home this season than Arenado. I argued this even before this season. His numbers have always been insanely inflated at home. This year it's borderline ridiculous.

on road he is like justin upton? lol...

i remember last season(it might even be in this thread...i dont know) people brought up K.bryant and his great home numbers and lousy on road during his rookie year...he had like 21/5 hr split....this year he completely flipped and has been pretty crappy at home and been a beast on the road...its really weird!!

That sounds more like the stats of an improving player, not proof of a continued disparity. You're not putting the numbers in proper context.

2013 - .793 vs .619
2014 - .928 vs .713
2015 - .960 vs .835 (.122 improvement away...that's HUGE)
2016 - 1.052 vs .789

There seems to be an awful lot of bashing ITT to take away what he's done so far in his career. There's something to be said for not having to travel, sleeping in your own bed, having sex with your significant other etc. The Golden State Warriors won 54 straight home games where the dimensions of the court are no different home/away. Of course players/teams do better at home.

Most of us won't even go to the bathroom without home field advantage. :D

Ripped a triple off the wall, Rockies take the lead. I've never seen Coors Field go this crazy. They're chanting MVP

I truly hope that the Rockies can give him an extension. Hands down, a top 5 player in MLB.

7 RBIs and 3 Homers already today. And yes, they are playing the Padres, at Coors and it's 100 degrees out. But still a good game for Nolan.

That's a damn good game regardless of location or team. Would be cool to see him hit 4 today.

I don't even care at this point. That's awesome, dude is a STUD. Also a defensive wizard to boot.

Love having him on my fantasy team.

What do people think the print run was on these? They never come up for sale.

I bought about 15 to 20 cases of this product. Arenado was not an ssp but definitely an sp. If I had to guess I'd say around 100. I actually pulled three of the red ink redemption's and got ones numbered 1, 2, and 3.

I bought one of the red inks off you. I am curious, how many blue inks did you pull from those cases? Thanks

Maybe he can get a walk off double and walk off triple for a walk off season cycle. I wonder if anyone in baseball history has ever done that.

Rajai Davis has.
