I look at these "hot packs" listed on EBay all the time and I wanted to get some more info from the board members here.
1) Are these just pack searchers that know what's in there as the "hit"?
2) Do some sellers, just open and reseal the pack after putting the "hit" in?
3) Has anyone every bought one and pulled a really fantastic card ie. if it says guaranteed relic or auto, you pull a superstar?

Any info, stories, experiences with these, I would love to know about. Thanks!

From what i understand it could be hit or miss. Your best bet is to check user feedback. personally ive never bought one. A lot of them are scams though, with people doing the first 2 things you mentioned.

be prepared for a lot of less than positive comments on this topic.

I used to buy a lot of these, but this was years ago when ebay was more reputable.

But in my experience:

1) Yes. And generally a plain jersey/bat relic worth $2
2) Sometimes. No way to be sure until the pack arrives & its too late.
3) Once. 2008 SP Threads Football. Guarenteed Letterman, pulled a Matt Ryan auto.

i've had great experinces but mostly bad.

I like to buy a hot pack of products I don't normally go for, so I can get a look of the cards and a hit to see if I like them. Most of the time I pull 2 dollar autos but I have pulled a great captains patch/49 of Peyton Manning camo in topps 2013 football. At the time they were going for $60 dollars. I also check feedback.

I also stay away from any certain player hot pack listings, and /25 /50 parallel guaranteed listings.

If it sounds too good to be true, often times it is too good to be true.

I'd avoid circumventing the natural odds and supporting these profiteering individuals who ruin the hobby, especially those not even selling packs but trying to sell "secrets" to find packs and just information.

Think about it, why would anyone sell a "hot pack" if there was something fantastic in that pack? If you want a low end relic or auto just buy one.

you left out a couple of choices
4) both 1 and 2
5) all of the above

the correct answer would be #4

stay away............If it had a great hit (say a 1of 1) why would the seller auction it?

like others have said.....most are $1-$2 dollar jersey cards.

Why do people refuse to use the search feature? This site has a wonderful one and using it would show the previous 874,362 threads started about this topic. It isn't like there have been any new revelations or developments since any of those. Hot packs are a scam 99.999999999% of the time. Buying them just encourages and rewards the scammers.

only have bought 1 of these and was back in 2007. Was a guaranteed auto from 2007 football and pulled a laurence marooney gold /10 which sold for 200. Figured not to push my luck again.

Got a lot of two 2013 Archives packs for under $10 with guaranteed Gallery of Heroes Acetates. Got two Ripkens, so that was cool for me!

only buy the hot packs that come with magic beans... those are the best.

I think it's mainly packsearchers getting low end retail relics. With that said I've got a few over the years off eBay for low prices. Kinda cool to see the relic and often it is a low end relic but worth more than I paid for the auction.

I don't understand why anyone would trust buying these things.

Why would anyone consider even selling them? Red Flag that someone is that hard up to sell a single pack just to make a buck and not open themselves = stay away. In my book, someone that is willing to do that (at best) would be willing to tamper with it.

Unfortunately, most of these "new" threads are nothing but recycled topics. I find myself guilty of it at times, but I can't tell you how many times these topics have been addressed:

Where do I go to check an Ebay best offer listing? (watchcount.com)

Why is Kris Bryant's real name not Thor because he sure plays like a God.

What is the multiplier of a gold/blue/etc... refractor?

I could go on and on.....

A lot of repetitiveness.....a lot of repetitiveness.......a lot of repetitiveness

Most of the slimeballs reseal the packs removing any valuable hits. Feedback dont mean anything as they can cover it up quite well now. Also they can pad their feedback with several 'Pulled a MJ AUTOGRAPH" from their friends and you would have no idea they reseal.
