View Full Version : Nervous about a USPS package...

I made a trade off of eBay last week and asked the guy to ship priority mail with insurance and tracking as I did. My end was there by last Saturday. He decided to send first class for whatever reason on a very high end deal...

I've been tracking the item and the delivery confirmation has not updated since being scanned on March 27. I just filed a delayed package claim with USPS and asked that they update me about the status of the item. Has this delay happened to anyone before? Was the package lost? Let me know what you guys think I should do in terms of next steps. This feels like an "Uh oh" type of moment...

Never make a high end deal with an ebayer.

That's not helpful now but thanks for the advice.

The USPS does not consider packages late or missing for 21 days. Right now many packages have been taking up to 2 weeks to arrive especially if they are going through Dallas there was a big article about a problem uncovered at the Dallas processing center causing masive delays across the county.

Wow. Now that is helpful. I did not realize that. My package is coming from Dallas (or a surrounding suburb). Hopefully the delay is related to this problem and I'll just have to wait it out. Thanks a lot for the heads up.

One of my package was stuck in Dallas for 4 days (didn't update), just arrived today. Hopefully that is the scenario with you.

Edit: My package was shipped USPS Priority 2 day mail.

I wonder what was going through the mind of the person waiting on their international package for 9+ months.

Wow, this EXACT thing is happening with an item I sold and shipped via USPS.

It was shipped out 2-19-15 and had normal updates leading up to "Out For Delivery" on 3-26-15.

It now says "Delivery Status Not Updated" as the last "Status".

The buyer is getting worried. They talked to their mailman and got nowhere. I spoke with my post office and they're looking into it.

Ugh.

Person probably wrote off his/her losses 8 months before they received the package haha.

I had one back in February going from here to Dallas via Priority mail take 17 days. That is less than 200 miles from me. Most seem to be getting through within 3 days or so now, but for about a 3 week span in February or March every package I sent was an ordeal, all my packages go through Dallas.

One trick is if you have a package that is being delayed, sign up for Email updates almost never fails the package moves within 24 hours of doing so and gets delivered in 2 or 3 days.

Just signed up for updates - great pro tip. Would it make sense for a package from Houston to go through Dallas or to be affected by the same delays?

Thanks guys. I'm feeling a little bit better about this now that I know this has happened to others recently...

Is your end coming through Kearny by any chance?

Yeah most of my packages go through Kearny. Is there a problem there as well?

The USPS has also closed 83 processing centers since January so there is backlog happening in many places. Last package I got from Houston came through Dallas, but I am in the Dallas region so I really don't know but I got one right now going to Indiana that ended up in San Antonio for a couple of days.

I have had several packages sit ideal for3-5 days, heck it took 3 anda half weeks to get a card sent from 4 hours away

One of the ladies I work with found out that her mail carrier was skipping whole neighborhoods on Saturday to get done earlier. She even had the person at the PO admit that the carrier brought her package back to the PO and then recorded it as delivered even though it was sitting by the time clock.

I just shipped out about 50 packages on eBay. About 20 of them were stuck at the Omaha sorting facility for 5 days. I was worried as hell but they eventually got scanned and moved along. It definitely happens with first class.

I had issues recently as well, including packages sent to BGS in Dallas. First class doesn't really get priority for updates. Hopefully you're will show up shortly. And avoiding obeyers on high end deals is awfully shortsighted, of course.

I'll vouch for the slow shipping out of Dallas, I've seen it take up to 4 days for them to upload tracking information. I always drop my packages off at the Post Office directly. It's annoyed more then a few people I have done deals with here and the bay...

Yeh.. seems almost all of my USPS first class mail takes a few extra days more than normal.. if super high end I don't even do Priority. Express Overnight! You pay more but I think the service is worth it.

Kearny here, I've been having problems with mail being slower than usual as well, but nothing too bad in sending. Had some cards delayed that shipped to me from other locations as well in addition to packages going out, which made one package late nearly an entire week.
