Recently I've been thinking about how many players have become coaches. It's pretty cool how the majority of coaches once played in the L, unlike football or some other sports. I'd like to see how many coaches we can name that were once players. Also, who do you think in the NBA currently will be a good coach in the future. Anyways, I'll start off the list and add on when I hear names.

Players who became coaches:
Phil Jackson
Lenny Wilkens
Doc Rivers
Steve Kerr
Jason Kidd
Larry Bird
Bill Russell

there's bucket loads of them.
I'm going to add future coach Lebron James, and I think he will be good at it.
Another, Steve Nash would also make a good coach.
Surprisingly, these guys never did, but I thought the would be good.
Patrick Ewing, John Stockton, Hakeem and Mark Price.

Just head coaches? Because there are heaps of assistant coaches like Lue and Cassell. I have heard a few people say Willie Green is a good candidate to become a coach, supposedly he just understands everything about the game.

Both were coaches. I have yet to see Jeff Hornacek mentioned on here.

It might be a smaller list to name coaches that never played

I believe he's been an assistant coach for some time.

How many former players and assistant coaches under Pop became coach or even GM? Same question for Phil Jackson ;)

I'll add Bill Sharman. Top 50 player with the Celtics and coach of the Lakers when they won 33 in a row.

There isn't a mean bone in his gigantic body, but I'd be curious how David Robinson would be as a coach.
