Question about the 1986-1987 fleet Jordan

Before I ask my question I wanted to say I've never collected basketball and I barely started watching this year I've always collected and watched football anyways , my question is I always thought the 1986-1987 fleer was Jordan's actuall rookie card but yesterday I saw it was his third year card? If it's not his rookie why does it sell for 1000$+? Why don't people actually spend that money on his real rookie card? Or does he not have one ? Sorry if these are dumb questions I'm new to basketball cards

I could be wrong but I believe Star was the only company to produce basketball cards from 82-85 and were not mass produced. Again I don't know this to be fact just my best guess.
